The Object

Flush and cleanthe ceiling stays uninterrupted

The Stratiformis Downlight is designed to disappear into the ceiling: a white aluminium housing installed trimless and plaster-finished, so the only thing visible is the beam of light it puts out. GU10 or MR16 bulb base; single or double configuration; anti-glare mesh available. Sloped-ceiling compatible, dimmable on request. For spaces where the architecture should lead and the fixture should not.
Why you'll love it
  • Trimless design — flush to the ceiling, no visible rim
  • Single or double configuration for flexible layouts
  • Optional anti-glare mesh softens the beam output
  • GU10 or MR16 bulb base — bulbs sold separately
  • Dimmable on request, sloped-ceiling compatible
Details

The install depends on your mount type — trimless, recessed, semi-recessed, surface, or track — so confirm which one you have before you start.

Before you begin

  • Mounting — trimless, recessed, semi-recessed, surface-mounted, or track-mounted; confirm the type in your product listing
  • Ceilings — most models suit drywall; some also work with concrete or drop ceilings, check the technical documentation
  • Dimming — many designs dim when paired with compatible drivers and wall dimmers
  • Power — hardwired, connects directly to a ceiling electrical junction
  • Trimless — may need professional finishing or flush-mount drywall work
  • Track — installs onto a compatible rail system; check your product's specification for track type

What you'll need

  • Drill, keyhole or drywall saw (for recessed or trimless)
  • Screwdriver, voltage tester, wire stripper
  • Wire nuts (included with most fixtures), screws and wall anchors (for surface mounting)
  • Level, measuring tape or pencil

Step by step

  1. Turn off the power — at the breaker panel, and confirm with a voltage tester.
  2. Prepare the ceiling opening (recessed and trimless only) — mark your opening with the provided template and cut carefully with a drywall saw or hole cutter. Trimless models need deeper space and extra setup for a seamless finish.
  3. Install the mounting hardware or fixture housing — recessed and trimless designs insert into the ceiling cavity and secure with spring clips or fasteners (trimless may need joist framing); semi-recessed fixtures partially install per the included instructions; surface-mounted downlights attach directly with screws and wall anchors; track fixtures need a compatible track system first, then lock into place.
  4. Connect the wiring — black to black, white to white, green or bare to ground. Secure each with a wire nut and tuck neatly back into the housing or box.
  5. Final assembly — trimless fixtures get mudded and feathered into the ceiling plane before painting; recessed, semi-recessed, and surface fixtures finish by twisting or snapping the trim or body into place; track lights get positioned and rotated along the rail after locking in.
  6. Restore power and test — use the wall switch or dimmer to verify proper operation.

Good to know

  • Professional installation is recommended for trimless or recessed downlights, especially with mudding or insulation involved.
  • Follow local electrical codes and regulations.
  • Use only compatible drivers and dimmers for your fixture.
  • Keep safe spacing from insulation in ceiling cavities to prevent overheating.

On the build

No trim, no rimthe light is all that shows

The Stratiformis housing is set into the ceiling void and finished flush with plaster on all four sides — no metal rim, no decorative collar, nothing to interrupt the ceiling plane. The GU10 socket sits at the base of a tapered aluminium cavity that directs the beam without visible hardware at the aperture. With the optional mesh insert, the aperture becomes a soft, diffused opening rather than a hard beam source.

Frequently asked

The Stratiformis Downlight requires a ceiling void of sufficient depth for the aluminium housing — typically 80–100 mm. It hardwires to a standard junction box and is finished flush with plaster after installation. Professional installation is strongly recommended.

Yes — trimless downlights require precise ceiling cutting and flush plastering to finish correctly. Professional installation by a certified electrician is recommended for the Stratiformis Downlight to achieve the intended seamless look.

The Stratiformis Downlight housing is made from aluminium — lightweight, durable, and dimensionally stable. The white finish is designed to blend with standard plaster ceilings after installation.

A trimless installation means no visible metal ring around the aperture — just an opening in the ceiling that emits light. The result is a cleaner, more architectural ceiling than a standard recessed downlight with a decorative trim collar.

Yes — the Stratiformis Downlight suits homes, offices, retail environments, and hospitality spaces. Its clean profile works wherever a polished, uncluttered ceiling is the goal.

Bulbs are not included with the Stratiformis Downlight. The fixture accepts standard GU10 or MR16 LED bulbs, which are widely available. We recommend a warm white LED (2700–3000K) for residential spaces.

The Stratiformis Downlight accepts GU10 and MR16 LED bulbs — both are standard and widely available. Specify your preferred base type at checkout. GU10 is the more common choice for residential installations.

The optional mesh insert sits at the aperture of the Stratiformis Downlight and breaks the beam into a softer, more diffused output. It reduces direct glare when the downlight is in the sightline of someone seated below — particularly useful for dining and living room installations.

Yes — the Stratiformis Downlight is designed specifically for contemporary, minimalist, and Scandinavian interiors where the ceiling should appear uninterrupted. It also works in transitional spaces where a flush, hardware-free aesthetic is desired.

The Stratiformis Downlight housing is built from durable aluminium for an indefinite structural life. The replaceable GU10 or MR16 LED bulbs are the only consumable — quality LED bulbs last 15,000–25,000 hours before needing replacement.
