Installation Guide

No wiring here — just careful measuring, drilling, and mounting. Mortice locks take a bit more patience than a simple knob.

Before you begin

  • Mounting — surface installation on doors, drawers, or cabinetry; check your product's dimensions for placement and drilling points

What you'll need

  • Screwdriver (Phillips and flathead), drill and drill bits, Allen key
  • Tape measure, pencil, level
  • Chisel (for mortice lock installation)
  • Screws and anchors, safety goggles

Step by step

  1. Cabinet hardware — mark drilling points — use a tape measure and pencil; a template helps for uniformity across multiple pieces.
  2. Cabinet hardware — drill holes — use a bit matched to the screw diameter, keeping the drill straight.
  3. Cabinet hardware — mount — insert screws from inside the cabinet or drawer, secure the hardware on the front face, and tighten without overtightening.
  4. Cabinet hardware — align and inspect — confirm straightness and spacing before fully securing.
  5. Thumb lock or dummy handle — confirm orientation — determine left- or right-hand door swing and adjust as needed.
  6. Thumb lock or dummy handle — mark installation height — typically 36–38 inches from the floor to the handle center; align the mounting plate.
  7. Thumb lock or dummy handle — drill and attach — drill pilot holes and secure the backplate and handle with the included screws. Dummy handles install directly, no latch mechanism.
  8. Thumb lock only — install the strike plate — mark the latch location on the door frame, chisel a recess if needed, and screw the strike plate in.
  9. Mortice lock — cut the mortice pocket — use a chisel and drill to create a cavity in the door edge, following the provided measurements.
  10. Mortice lock — insert the lock body — fit it into the cavity and attach through the faceplate with screws.
  11. Mortice lock — install the handle — align the spindle through the lock, attach handles on both sides, and tighten with a screwdriver or Allen key.
  12. Mortice lock — install the cylinder (if applicable) — insert the key cylinder and secure with the cylinder screw from the door edge.
  13. Mortice lock — mount the strike plate — align with the latch mechanism and secure to the door frame.

Good to know

  • Double-check measurements before drilling.
  • Use a level for consistent alignment across multiple units.
  • If you're unfamiliar with mortice installation, consult a locksmith or professional.
  • Make sure all moving parts operate smoothly before final tightening.
  • Dummy handles are decorative or pull-only — they don't engage latches or locks.

Solid — and built to age well

The Porcuna is cast from solid brass, not plated, so the material runs all the way through rather than sitting as a thin layer over another metal. Left unlacquered, it will slowly pick up a soft patina from handling — a quality that improves with use rather than wears out.

Innovative engineering. Intelligent design.

Solid weight

Cast entirely from brass, it feels reassuringly heavy compared to hollow or plated knobs.

Ages with use

The unlacquered brass develops a natural patina the more it's handled, not less.

Quiet form

The oval shape is sculptural without being loud — it works across many cabinet styles.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Porcuna Knob made of?

It's cast from solid brass, not plated over another metal, which gives it genuine weight and means the material will age consistently through wear rather than chip or reveal a base layer.

What design style does the Porcuna Knob follow?

Its soft, oval silhouette leans toward understated, transitional design — sculptural enough to notice, restrained enough to work with both modern and classic cabinetry.

Where can the Porcuna Knob be installed?

It suits kitchen cabinets, wardrobes, bathroom vanities, and furniture drawers — anywhere a compact, considered brass knob fits standard cabinet hardware sizing.

What makes the shape of this knob unique?

Its oval form is gently rounded rather than perfectly circular, giving it a slightly organic feel that reads as sculptural without drawing too much attention to itself.

Which interior styles does this knob complement?

Its understated oval form works with both painted cabinetry and natural wood, making it a flexible choice across contemporary, transitional, and classic interior styles.

What color options are available for the Porcuna Knob?

It comes in vintage brass, standard brass, chrome, and black — a range that spans warm aged tones through to a clean, cool contemporary finish.

Is the surface of the knob textured or smooth?

Smooth — the finish is left plain rather than knurled or ridged, so the oval shape and the way light moves across it carry the visual interest instead.

Does the brass material affect durability?

Yes, positively — solid brass resists corrosion and daily wear far better than lighter alloys, and any surface changes over time read as patina rather than damage.

Is this knob more decorative or functional?

Both — its sculptural oval form adds a genuine decorative note to a cabinet front, while the ergonomic grip and solid construction make it fully functional for daily use.

Can this knob be used in both residential and commercial spaces?

Yes — its understated form and solid-brass construction hold up well in both home kitchens and lower-traffic commercial or hospitality cabinetry.
