The Object

Ringleft open, on purpose

Penaflor takes the shape of an open circle, a ring that doesn't quite close. Solid brass gives it real weight, and the brushed finish keeps the surface warm rather than mirror-bright. Rounded through the profile, it sits comfortably under two fingers, a quiet detail against any cabinet door.
Why you'll love it
  • Solid brass with a warm brushed finish
  • Open-ring silhouette adds sculptural detail
  • Rounded profile feels smooth in the hand
  • Suits both light and dark cabinetry
  • Develops a natural patina over time
Details

No wiring here — just careful measuring, drilling, and mounting. Mortice locks take a bit more patience than a simple knob.

Before you begin

  • Mounting — surface installation on doors, drawers, or cabinetry; check your product's dimensions for placement and drilling points

What you'll need

  • Screwdriver (Phillips and flathead), drill and drill bits, Allen key
  • Tape measure, pencil, level
  • Chisel (for mortice lock installation)
  • Screws and anchors, safety goggles

Step by step

  1. Cabinet hardware — mark drilling points — use a tape measure and pencil; a template helps for uniformity across multiple pieces.
  2. Cabinet hardware — drill holes — use a bit matched to the screw diameter, keeping the drill straight.
  3. Cabinet hardware — mount — insert screws from inside the cabinet or drawer, secure the hardware on the front face, and tighten without overtightening.
  4. Cabinet hardware — align and inspect — confirm straightness and spacing before fully securing.
  5. Thumb lock or dummy handle — confirm orientation — determine left- or right-hand door swing and adjust as needed.
  6. Thumb lock or dummy handle — mark installation height — typically 36–38 inches from the floor to the handle center; align the mounting plate.
  7. Thumb lock or dummy handle — drill and attach — drill pilot holes and secure the backplate and handle with the included screws. Dummy handles install directly, no latch mechanism.
  8. Thumb lock only — install the strike plate — mark the latch location on the door frame, chisel a recess if needed, and screw the strike plate in.
  9. Mortice lock — cut the mortice pocket — use a chisel and drill to create a cavity in the door edge, following the provided measurements.
  10. Mortice lock — insert the lock body — fit it into the cavity and attach through the faceplate with screws.
  11. Mortice lock — install the handle — align the spindle through the lock, attach handles on both sides, and tighten with a screwdriver or Allen key.
  12. Mortice lock — install the cylinder (if applicable) — insert the key cylinder and secure with the cylinder screw from the door edge.
  13. Mortice lock — mount the strike plate — align with the latch mechanism and secure to the door frame.

Good to know

  • Double-check measurements before drilling.
  • Use a level for consistent alignment across multiple units.
  • If you're unfamiliar with mortice installation, consult a locksmith or professional.
  • Make sure all moving parts operate smoothly before final tightening.
  • Dummy handles are decorative or pull-only — they don't engage latches or locks.

The shape

Circularbut never fully closed

Penaflor's open-ring form is what sets it apart from a standard round knob — the gap catches light and shadow differently depending on the angle. Cast from solid brass, the profile is rounded rather than sharp, so it sits comfortably against the fingers. The brushed finish will slowly deepen with handling.

A small circular detail, considered from every angle.
Open form

The ring doesn't fully close, giving the knob a subtle sculptural detail most knobs don't have.

Solid brass

Cast from solid brass rather than plated metal, so the warmth runs all the way through.

Ages with use

The brushed finish gradually develops a natural patina the more it's handled.

Frequently asked

Solid brass, finished with a warm brushed vintage-brass tone rather than plated over a base metal.

An open-ring silhouette — the circle doesn't fully close, which gives the knob a small sculptural detail against the cabinet surface.

A vintage brass finish, warm in tone and built to deepen naturally as it's handled over time.

One finish, vintage brass — chosen to work consistently across both light and dark cabinetry without needing alternatives.

Kitchen cabinets, wardrobes, dressers, and bathroom vanities — anywhere a small, considered pull detail is needed.

It pairs naturally with modern interiors, though the open-ring brass form also reads well in more classic or transitional spaces.

Solid — it's cast from solid brass throughout, which is what gives it its reassuring weight in the hand.

The open-ring shape sets it apart from a standard round knob, catching light differently depending on the angle it's viewed from.

It sits comfortably between both — the sculptural open form feels modern, while the solid brass and patina keep it timeless.

Yes — its open silhouette makes it distinctive enough to stand alone as a detail, even on simple cabinetry.
