Installation Guide

No wiring here — just careful measuring, drilling, and mounting. Mortice locks take a bit more patience than a simple knob.

Before you begin

  • Mounting — surface installation on doors, drawers, or cabinetry; check your product's dimensions for placement and drilling points

What you'll need

  • Screwdriver (Phillips and flathead), drill and drill bits, Allen key
  • Tape measure, pencil, level
  • Chisel (for mortice lock installation)
  • Screws and anchors, safety goggles

Step by step

  1. Cabinet hardware — mark drilling points — use a tape measure and pencil; a template helps for uniformity across multiple pieces.
  2. Cabinet hardware — drill holes — use a bit matched to the screw diameter, keeping the drill straight.
  3. Cabinet hardware — mount — insert screws from inside the cabinet or drawer, secure the hardware on the front face, and tighten without overtightening.
  4. Cabinet hardware — align and inspect — confirm straightness and spacing before fully securing.
  5. Thumb lock or dummy handle — confirm orientation — determine left- or right-hand door swing and adjust as needed.
  6. Thumb lock or dummy handle — mark installation height — typically 36–38 inches from the floor to the handle center; align the mounting plate.
  7. Thumb lock or dummy handle — drill and attach — drill pilot holes and secure the backplate and handle with the included screws. Dummy handles install directly, no latch mechanism.
  8. Thumb lock only — install the strike plate — mark the latch location on the door frame, chisel a recess if needed, and screw the strike plate in.
  9. Mortice lock — cut the mortice pocket — use a chisel and drill to create a cavity in the door edge, following the provided measurements.
  10. Mortice lock — insert the lock body — fit it into the cavity and attach through the faceplate with screws.
  11. Mortice lock — install the handle — align the spindle through the lock, attach handles on both sides, and tighten with a screwdriver or Allen key.
  12. Mortice lock — install the cylinder (if applicable) — insert the key cylinder and secure with the cylinder screw from the door edge.
  13. Mortice lock — mount the strike plate — align with the latch mechanism and secure to the door frame.

Good to know

  • Double-check measurements before drilling.
  • Use a level for consistent alignment across multiple units.
  • If you're unfamiliar with mortice installation, consult a locksmith or professional.
  • Make sure all moving parts operate smoothly before final tightening.
  • Dummy handles are decorative or pull-only — they don't engage latches or locks.

A border — catching light at every angle

The Espera's beaded edge and central motif aren't flat — they create real depth across the small circular face, so light catches differently as you move past it. Brass left unlacquered will darken and develop character with handling. It's built for the kind of daily contact that makes hardware worth noticing.

Innovative engineering. Intelligent design.

Frequently Asked Questions

What material is the Espera Cabinet Knob made of?

Solid brass throughout, which gives the knob genuine weight in the hand and lets it develop a natural patina with regular use over time.

What finish is available for this knob?

Two options: Vintage Brass, a warmer antiqued tone, and Bronze, a deeper, cooler finish. Both are applied over the same solid brass base.

What design style does the Espera Knob feature?

A medallion-inspired design with a beaded border and central motif — a classic decorative form that reads composed and architectural rather than ornate.

What shape is the Espera Knob?

A circular silhouette, sized for a comfortable ergonomic grip. The detailing sits within that circle rather than changing the overall shape.

Does the knob include decorative detailing?

Yes — a beaded border frames a central motif, adding soft dimensional depth to the face of the knob that catches light as you move past it.

What type of base does the knob have?

It mounts with a standard threaded post through the cabinet face, secured from behind — the same fitting method used across our cabinet knob range.

Where can the Espera Knob be installed?

Kitchen cabinets, wardrobes, bathroom vanities, and furniture drawers — anywhere a small brass detail suits the surrounding cabinetry.

Is the Espera Knob suitable for decorative furniture?

Yes — its medallion detailing works especially well on furniture pieces where the hardware is meant to be noticed, not just functional.

How does the brass finish affect the design?

Brass catches light warmly and, left unlacquered, ages into a richer tone with handling — so the knob's character actually improves the more it's used.

What makes the Espera Knob different from standard knobs?

The medallion face and beaded border give it more presence than a plain round knob, while the solid brass construction ensures that detail holds up for decades.
