The Object

Lit from withinnot from a bulb

The Cauvicourt suspends polished calcite rings on slender steel cables — one, two, or three tiers depending on the room. The stone is the light source: an internal LED passes through the translucent material, so the glow emerges warm and diffused rather than projected. No two rings carry the same veining; each is cut from a different block of the same stone.
Why you'll love it
  • Light glows through real calcite — soft, warm, no glare
  • Each ring uniquely veined — no two chandeliers alike
  • One, two, or three tiers — scales to your ceiling
  • Six diameter options, from 50 cm to 150 cm
  • Integrated LED — copper frame, satin nickel finish
Details

A standard hardwired ceiling install — most of it is switching off the power and matching three wires. Set your hanging height before you connect anything, and you're most of the way there.

Before you begin

  • Mounting — to a standard ceiling junction box
  • Power — hardwired to your mains supply
  • Dimming — socketed bulbs dim; integrated-LED models don't
  • Drop — arrives at 47" (1.2 m); want it shorter or longer? Just email us before it ships
  • Ceilings — flat, and most sloped (check the product specs)

What you'll need

  • Screwdriver, voltage tester, wire stripper
  • Wire nuts (included), ladder
  • Drill (only for a new junction box or non-standard ceiling)

Step by step

  1. Turn off the power — switch off the lighting circuit at the breaker, then confirm it's dead with a voltage tester.
  2. Mount the bracket — fasten the included bracket to the junction box, snug and level.
  3. Set your height — before wiring, adjust the cord, chain, or downrod to your drop and lock it at the canopy.
  4. Connect the wires — black to black, white to white, green or bare to ground. Secure each with a wire nut and tuck them into the box.
  5. Attach the fixture — line the canopy up with the bracket and fix it flush with the provided screws or caps.
  6. Add the bulbs — correct type and wattage; if dimming, check the bulbs match your wall dimmer.
  7. Power on and test.

Good to know

  • Follow your local electrical codes.
  • For high or angled ceilings, or anything complex, bring in a licensed electrician.
  • Don't over-tighten decorative parts; dust gently with a soft cloth.

On the stone

Calciteselected for how it carries light

Calcite is chosen for translucency — the way it lets light through rather than bouncing it back. Each ring is polished until the surface is continuous and smooth, then mounted on precision steel cables so the stone appears to float. The veining, formed over millennia, becomes part of the glow.

Innovative engineering · intelligent design
Three things that make the Cauvicourt worth understanding.
Stone glow

The calcite diffuses the integrated LED into a soft, warm wash — no bare bulb visible from any angle.

Always unique

Each slab carries its own veining, colour, and density — revealed only once the light passes through.

Scaled to fit

Choose one, two, or three tiers, and a diameter from 50 cm to 150 cm, for the room you have.

Material & craft

Calcitecut for translucence

Each ring is cut from a slab selected for the way it carries light. Polished to a smooth, continuous surface, then fitted with an internal LED driver and mounted on precision steel cables — ancient material, modern engineering.

Design statement

Stonegiven a new job

Alabaster lit cathedrals and palaces long before Edison. The Cauvicourt brings that ancient glow into a clean, contemporary form — stone rings on cables, LED inside, the light not reflected but carried through the material itself. Each piece records the geology of its origin in the veining you see.

Frequently asked

The rings are cut from natural alabaster calcite — a translucent stone — mounted on a copper frame with a satin nickel finish, and suspended from slender precision steel cables.

An integrated LED sits inside the stone ring. Because calcite is translucent, the light passes through the material itself rather than shining off its surface, creating a diffused glow from within.

The light is warm and inviting — the stone's natural translucency filters the LED into a soft, amber-tinted glow, similar in quality to candlelight but steady and consistent.

Atmospheric and calm. The stone absorbs and distributes the light so there's no glare or harsh point — just a warm, layered glow that works in dining rooms, living spaces, and foyers.

The Cauvicourt ships free worldwide and typically arrives within 15–21 business days. For larger configurations (3 tiers, 150 cm), our team will confirm the exact timeline at checkout.

Yes — the calcite and satin nickel work across contemporary, transitional, and organic-modern interiors. Best over dining tables, in double-height foyers, or as a centrepiece in a living room with sufficient ceiling clearance.

Alabaster calcite is a natural stone — it doesn't crack under normal conditions but should not be struck or placed under impact stress. The polished surface is resistant to everyday dust and is wiped clean with a dry cloth.

Yes, the Cauvicourt is compatible with standard dimmer switches. Confirm your dimmer type with our team when ordering and we'll ensure the integrated LED driver is configured correctly.

Use a soft, dry cloth on the stone surface — no water or chemical cleaners on the calcite. The metal frame can be wiped with a slightly damp cloth. Switch off and allow to cool before cleaning.

A single 80 cm ring suits a dining table for four to six; a 100–120 cm works for larger tables or open-plan spaces. Two- and three-tier configurations are best in rooms with 3 m+ ceilings and open volumes.
