Installation Guide

No wiring here — just careful measuring, drilling, and mounting. Mortice locks take a bit more patience than a simple knob.

Before you begin

  • Mounting — surface installation on doors, drawers, or cabinetry; check your product's dimensions for placement and drilling points

What you'll need

  • Screwdriver (Phillips and flathead), drill and drill bits, Allen key
  • Tape measure, pencil, level
  • Chisel (for mortice lock installation)
  • Screws and anchors, safety goggles

Step by step

  1. Cabinet hardware — mark drilling points — use a tape measure and pencil; a template helps for uniformity across multiple pieces.
  2. Cabinet hardware — drill holes — use a bit matched to the screw diameter, keeping the drill straight.
  3. Cabinet hardware — mount — insert screws from inside the cabinet or drawer, secure the hardware on the front face, and tighten without overtightening.
  4. Cabinet hardware — align and inspect — confirm straightness and spacing before fully securing.
  5. Thumb lock or dummy handle — confirm orientation — determine left- or right-hand door swing and adjust as needed.
  6. Thumb lock or dummy handle — mark installation height — typically 36–38 inches from the floor to the handle center; align the mounting plate.
  7. Thumb lock or dummy handle — drill and attach — drill pilot holes and secure the backplate and handle with the included screws. Dummy handles install directly, no latch mechanism.
  8. Thumb lock only — install the strike plate — mark the latch location on the door frame, chisel a recess if needed, and screw the strike plate in.
  9. Mortice lock — cut the mortice pocket — use a chisel and drill to create a cavity in the door edge, following the provided measurements.
  10. Mortice lock — insert the lock body — fit it into the cavity and attach through the faceplate with screws.
  11. Mortice lock — install the handle — align the spindle through the lock, attach handles on both sides, and tighten with a screwdriver or Allen key.
  12. Mortice lock — install the cylinder (if applicable) — insert the key cylinder and secure with the cylinder screw from the door edge.
  13. Mortice lock — mount the strike plate — align with the latch mechanism and secure to the door frame.

Good to know

  • Double-check measurements before drilling.
  • Use a level for consistent alignment across multiple units.
  • If you're unfamiliar with mortice installation, consult a locksmith or professional.
  • Make sure all moving parts operate smoothly before final tightening.
  • Dummy handles are decorative or pull-only — they don't engage latches or locks.

Knurl — cut for a sure hand

The knurled pattern across the Castano's surface is machined, not stamped — a fine crosshatch that catches the fingers rather than sliding under them. It adds visual texture too, breaking up the smooth brass with a detail you feel before you see.

Innovative engineering. Intelligent design.

Frequently Asked Questions

What material is the Castano Knob & Pull Bar made from?

Solid brass, with the surface knurled directly into the metal itself, so the grip texture is machined into the piece rather than added as a separate coating.

What finishes are available?

Vintage brass, brass, and black — three tones over the same knurled form, so you can match whichever finish suits your existing kitchen or bathroom hardware.

Does the handle have a textured grip?

Yes — a fine knurled texture is cut into the surface for secure handling, giving your fingers something to catch rather than a smooth, slippery round.

What sizes are available?

A compact knob, a T-knob, and three pull bar lengths, ranging from small drawers up to wide cabinet fronts, so one design covers a full kitchen.

What are the hole spacing options for the pull bars?

3.7 inches, 5 inches, or 8.8 inches, depending on the pull bar length chosen, matching common cabinet-door drilling standards for straightforward installation.

Is this hardware suitable for kitchen cabinets?

Yes — it's built for everyday use across kitchens, wardrobes, and vanities, standing up well to the frequent handling a kitchen cabinet gets.

How does the knurled texture benefit everyday use?

It gives fingers something to catch, so grip stays secure even with wet or soapy hands — a real functional upgrade over a smooth polished knob.

Are these knobs and pulls heavy or lightweight?

They carry real weight for their size, from 65 grams for the smallest knob up to 270 grams for the longest pull bar, so nothing feels flimsy.

Can I mix knobs and pull bars in the same space?

Yes — pair the knob on smaller drawers with pull bars on larger cabinets for a cohesive, coordinated look throughout the whole kitchen or wardrobe.

What design style does this hardware suit best?

Modern interiors that want a tactile, considered detail on every cabinet front, though the knurled texture also reads well in more classic kitchens.
