Installation Guide

No wiring here — just careful measuring, drilling, and mounting. Mortice locks take a bit more patience than a simple knob.

Before you begin

  • Mounting — surface installation on doors, drawers, or cabinetry; check your product's dimensions for placement and drilling points

What you'll need

  • Screwdriver (Phillips and flathead), drill and drill bits, Allen key
  • Tape measure, pencil, level
  • Chisel (for mortice lock installation)
  • Screws and anchors, safety goggles

Step by step

  1. Cabinet hardware — mark drilling points — use a tape measure and pencil; a template helps for uniformity across multiple pieces.
  2. Cabinet hardware — drill holes — use a bit matched to the screw diameter, keeping the drill straight.
  3. Cabinet hardware — mount — insert screws from inside the cabinet or drawer, secure the hardware on the front face, and tighten without overtightening.
  4. Cabinet hardware — align and inspect — confirm straightness and spacing before fully securing.
  5. Thumb lock or dummy handle — confirm orientation — determine left- or right-hand door swing and adjust as needed.
  6. Thumb lock or dummy handle — mark installation height — typically 36–38 inches from the floor to the handle center; align the mounting plate.
  7. Thumb lock or dummy handle — drill and attach — drill pilot holes and secure the backplate and handle with the included screws. Dummy handles install directly, no latch mechanism.
  8. Thumb lock only — install the strike plate — mark the latch location on the door frame, chisel a recess if needed, and screw the strike plate in.
  9. Mortice lock — cut the mortice pocket — use a chisel and drill to create a cavity in the door edge, following the provided measurements.
  10. Mortice lock — insert the lock body — fit it into the cavity and attach through the faceplate with screws.
  11. Mortice lock — install the handle — align the spindle through the lock, attach handles on both sides, and tighten with a screwdriver or Allen key.
  12. Mortice lock — install the cylinder (if applicable) — insert the key cylinder and secure with the cylinder screw from the door edge.
  13. Mortice lock — mount the strike plate — align with the latch mechanism and secure to the door frame.

Good to know

  • Double-check measurements before drilling.
  • Use a level for consistent alignment across multiple units.
  • If you're unfamiliar with mortice installation, consult a locksmith or professional.
  • Make sure all moving parts operate smoothly before final tightening.
  • Dummy handles are decorative or pull-only — they don't engage latches or locks.

Two materials — one hardware set

The brass bar and the wooden knob are shaped to sit together without competing, one cool and reflective, the other warm and matte. Used on the same run of cabinetry, they read as a deliberate pairing rather than mismatched hardware.

Frequently Asked Questions

What materials are used in the Bonares Knob & Pull Bar?

Solid brass paired with a smooth wooden knob accent, so the set combines a cool metal surface with a warmer, tactile material.

What design style does this hardware feature?

A sculptural, understated style that balances precise brass geometry with the softness of natural wood, suited to modern and transitional interiors.

What makes the design visually unique?

The pairing of two materials, brass and wood, on a single hardware set gives it a considered contrast most cabinet hardware doesn't have.

Is this hardware suitable for contemporary interiors?

Yes — its clean form and warm material contrast work well in modern kitchens, wardrobes, and bathroom vanities without feeling out of place.

Where can this knob and pull bar be used?

Kitchen cabinets, wardrobes, bathroom vanities, and custom furniture — the knob suits smaller doors while the pull suits larger ones.

Does the wood element affect durability?

No — the wood is a considered accent finished to hold up well with daily handling, and it's protected against everyday wear and moisture.

How does the hardware feel during daily use?

Balanced and steady in the hand, with the wood adding a warm, tactile touch against the cooler brass surface underneath.

Does it work in transitional interiors as well?

Yes — the warm material mix suits transitional spaces as easily as fully modern ones, bridging both without feeling mismatched.

Is the finish more decorative or functional?

Both — the brass and wood pairing looks intentional while performing its everyday job as a secure, comfortable knob or pull.

What type of statement does this hardware make on cabinetry?

A quiet one — texture and material contrast over ornamentation, letting the brass and wood pairing speak for itself on plain cabinet fronts.
