Installation Guide

No wiring here — just careful measuring, drilling, and mounting. Mortice locks take a bit more patience than a simple knob.

Before you begin

  • Mounting — surface installation on doors, drawers, or cabinetry; check your product's dimensions for placement and drilling points

What you'll need

  • Screwdriver (Phillips and flathead), drill and drill bits, Allen key
  • Tape measure, pencil, level
  • Chisel (for mortice lock installation)
  • Screws and anchors, safety goggles

Step by step

  1. Cabinet hardware — mark drilling points — use a tape measure and pencil; a template helps for uniformity across multiple pieces.
  2. Cabinet hardware — drill holes — use a bit matched to the screw diameter, keeping the drill straight.
  3. Cabinet hardware — mount — insert screws from inside the cabinet or drawer, secure the hardware on the front face, and tighten without overtightening.
  4. Cabinet hardware — align and inspect — confirm straightness and spacing before fully securing.
  5. Thumb lock or dummy handle — confirm orientation — determine left- or right-hand door swing and adjust as needed.
  6. Thumb lock or dummy handle — mark installation height — typically 36–38 inches from the floor to the handle center; align the mounting plate.
  7. Thumb lock or dummy handle — drill and attach — drill pilot holes and secure the backplate and handle with the included screws. Dummy handles install directly, no latch mechanism.
  8. Thumb lock only — install the strike plate — mark the latch location on the door frame, chisel a recess if needed, and screw the strike plate in.
  9. Mortice lock — cut the mortice pocket — use a chisel and drill to create a cavity in the door edge, following the provided measurements.
  10. Mortice lock — insert the lock body — fit it into the cavity and attach through the faceplate with screws.
  11. Mortice lock — install the handle — align the spindle through the lock, attach handles on both sides, and tighten with a screwdriver or Allen key.
  12. Mortice lock — install the cylinder (if applicable) — insert the key cylinder and secure with the cylinder screw from the door edge.
  13. Mortice lock — mount the strike plate — align with the latch mechanism and secure to the door frame.

Good to know

  • Double-check measurements before drilling.
  • Use a level for consistent alignment across multiple units.
  • If you're unfamiliar with mortice installation, consult a locksmith or professional.
  • Make sure all moving parts operate smoothly before final tightening.
  • Dummy handles are decorative or pull-only — they don't engage latches or locks.

Texture — carved to catch the light

The Baena's face is carved with a shallow spiral, cut deep enough to feel under the thumb but subtle enough not to dominate the knob's small scale. Solid brass takes the detail cleanly, and the vintage finish gives it an already-settled character. As it's handled daily, the raised edges of the spiral are where the patina shows first.

Innovative engineering. Intelligent design.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Baena Knob made of?

Solid brass, finished in a vintage tone that already reads warm and a little lived-in.

What finish is available for this knob?

Vintage brass — a warm, slightly aged tone that will continue to develop character with use.

Where can the Baena Knob be installed?

Kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, wardrobes, and custom furniture — its compact scale suits most cabinetry.

What makes the design of the Baena Knob unique?

The carved spiral face — a texture detail most brass knobs skip in favour of a plain, smooth surface.

Is the Baena Knob suitable for modern interiors?

Yes — its compact, circular form keeps it understated enough for modern kitchens, while the carved detail adds a bit of warmth.

Can this knob be used as a statement hardware piece?

It can — the spiral texture and brass finish give it more presence than a plain round knob, even at a small scale.

Does the knob have a smooth or textured surface?

The body is smooth, but the face carries the carved spiral pattern for tactile interest.

Is the Baena Knob decorative or purely functional?

Both — it works as everyday cabinet hardware, but the carved detail adds a design element you notice.

Does the brass material affect the appearance of the design?

Yes — brass takes the carved detail cleanly and develops a natural patina, so the spiral becomes more visible with age.

Is the Baena Knob designed for furniture or doors?

It's built for cabinet and furniture doors and drawers — kitchens, vanities, and built-ins.
