Installation Guide

No wiring here — just careful measuring, drilling, and mounting. Mortice locks take a bit more patience than a simple knob.

Before you begin

  • Mounting — surface installation on doors, drawers, or cabinetry; check your product's dimensions for placement and drilling points

What you'll need

  • Screwdriver (Phillips and flathead), drill and drill bits, Allen key
  • Tape measure, pencil, level
  • Chisel (for mortice lock installation)
  • Screws and anchors, safety goggles

Step by step

  1. Cabinet hardware — mark drilling points — use a tape measure and pencil; a template helps for uniformity across multiple pieces.
  2. Cabinet hardware — drill holes — use a bit matched to the screw diameter, keeping the drill straight.
  3. Cabinet hardware — mount — insert screws from inside the cabinet or drawer, secure the hardware on the front face, and tighten without overtightening.
  4. Cabinet hardware — align and inspect — confirm straightness and spacing before fully securing.
  5. Thumb lock or dummy handle — confirm orientation — determine left- or right-hand door swing and adjust as needed.
  6. Thumb lock or dummy handle — mark installation height — typically 36–38 inches from the floor to the handle center; align the mounting plate.
  7. Thumb lock or dummy handle — drill and attach — drill pilot holes and secure the backplate and handle with the included screws. Dummy handles install directly, no latch mechanism.
  8. Thumb lock only — install the strike plate — mark the latch location on the door frame, chisel a recess if needed, and screw the strike plate in.
  9. Mortice lock — cut the mortice pocket — use a chisel and drill to create a cavity in the door edge, following the provided measurements.
  10. Mortice lock — insert the lock body — fit it into the cavity and attach through the faceplate with screws.
  11. Mortice lock — install the handle — align the spindle through the lock, attach handles on both sides, and tighten with a screwdriver or Allen key.
  12. Mortice lock — install the cylinder (if applicable) — insert the key cylinder and secure with the cylinder screw from the door edge.
  13. Mortice lock — mount the strike plate — align with the latch mechanism and secure to the door frame.

Good to know

  • Double-check measurements before drilling.
  • Use a level for consistent alignment across multiple units.
  • If you're unfamiliar with mortice installation, consult a locksmith or professional.
  • Make sure all moving parts operate smoothly before final tightening.
  • Dummy handles are decorative or pull-only — they don't engage latches or locks.

Sanded by hand — until it warms to the touch

Each Arcos knob starts as a solid block of wood, shaped and then hand-sanded until every edge is rounded and smooth. That process is what gives the surface its warmth — nothing sharp, nothing left raw. The grain running through each piece is natural, so the pattern on your cabinet front is genuinely specific to that one knob.

Innovative engineering. Intelligent design.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Arcos Knob made from?

Solid wood, shaped and hand-sanded so the natural grain stays visible through the finish.

What finish does the Arcos Knob have?

Natural wood or walnut — both keep the grain visible, just in a lighter or deeper tone.

Where can the Arcos Knob be installed?

Kitchen cabinets, wardrobes, bathroom vanities, and furniture drawers — anywhere a warm, tactile detail fits.

What design style does the Arcos Knob suit?

Modern and natural interiors both — the soft, rounded shapes read as understated rather than rustic.

What makes the Arcos Knob comfortable to use?

The smooth, hand-sanded surface and rounded silhouette are shaped to sit comfortably under the fingers.

Does each Arcos Knob look the same?

No — wood grain is natural, so the exact pattern on each knob is unique to that piece.

How does the Arcos Knob affect cabinetry visually?

It adds a soft, organic accent against wood or painted surfaces, breaking up hard lines with a warmer material.

Is the surface smooth or textured?

Smooth — every knob is hand-sanded until the edges and curves feel rounded rather than sharp.

Does the wood tone add contrast to furniture?

Yes — especially the walnut finish, which reads darker and richer against lighter cabinetry.

What is the overall feel of the Arcos Knob in daily use?

Warm and tactile — solid wood has a different weight and touch than metal, and it's built to develop character with use.
