The outer shade is ceramic with pressed geometric surface texture. The inner cylinder and hardware are copper finished in brass. The cord runs black against both materials.

Ceramic is more brittle than metal, but the Apt's shade is fired ceramic rather than thin porcelain — robust under normal use. Handle with care during installation and cleaning.
