A solid brass core machined to a consistent diameter, wrapped in cowhide leather. Brass was chosen for its density and durability; cowhide for its natural variation and the way it improves with handling.
Each piece of hide is cut from a different section, so the pattern of natural markings — spots, tone gradations — is unique to that knob. No two Vik Knobs look identical, even within the same colour order.
Yes — the core is machined from solid brass, not plated zinc. It will not crack, bend, or corrode under normal indoor use, and it gives the Vik a satisfying weight in the hand.
The Vik is sized at 3 cm diameter and 7.2 cm height — compact enough for small drawers, substantial enough for cabinet doors. The smooth cowhide surface is warm and non-slip under dry hands.
The cowhide wrap is the differentiator — the natural pattern on each piece of hide is determined by the animal and the section of skin it came from. No dye or printing is applied to simulate this; the variation is real and inherent to the material.
Standard cabinet knob installation — thread the included screw through the cabinet door or drawer face from the inside and tighten into the base of the Vik. No specialist tools required. A basic screwdriver is enough.
Significantly for the detail level — cabinet hardware is a small thing touched dozens of times a day. Replacing a plain knob with the Vik adds material interest and a tactile quality that reads as considered without calling attention to itself.
The cowhide used in the Vik is a by-product of the food industry — not sourced for leather alone. If you have specific certification requirements for your project, contact us before ordering and we will provide sourcing documentation.
The brass core has no coating to wear — it is solid metal throughout. The cowhide develops a patina over time from handling, which typically deepens and enriches the colour rather than degrading it. Nava ships free worldwide with a 1-year warranty.
