The Object

Recessedlight with nowhere to hide

The Tapio Tapio sits flush in the ceiling — a minimal cut in aluminium and acrylic that gives a room clean, directed light with nothing visible to look at. Integrated LED, 12–20W depending on the size you choose, rated past 50,000 hours. Corrosion-resistant, sloped-ceiling compatible, dimmable on request.
Why you'll love it
  • Flush recessed fit — nothing visible above the ceiling line
  • 50,000+ hour integrated LED, nothing to replace
  • Aluminium and acrylic — corrosion and rust resistant
  • Four wattage options: 12W, 15W, 18W, 20W
  • Black or white finish — sloped-ceiling compatible
Details

The install depends on your mount type — trimless, recessed, semi-recessed, surface, or track — so confirm which one you have before you start.

Before you begin

  • Mounting — trimless, recessed, semi-recessed, surface-mounted, or track-mounted; confirm the type in your product listing
  • Ceilings — most models suit drywall; some also work with concrete or drop ceilings, check the technical documentation
  • Dimming — many designs dim when paired with compatible drivers and wall dimmers
  • Power — hardwired, connects directly to a ceiling electrical junction
  • Trimless — may need professional finishing or flush-mount drywall work
  • Track — installs onto a compatible rail system; check your product's specification for track type

What you'll need

  • Drill, keyhole or drywall saw (for recessed or trimless)
  • Screwdriver, voltage tester, wire stripper
  • Wire nuts (included with most fixtures), screws and wall anchors (for surface mounting)
  • Level, measuring tape or pencil

Step by step

  1. Turn off the power — at the breaker panel, and confirm with a voltage tester.
  2. Prepare the ceiling opening (recessed and trimless only) — mark your opening with the provided template and cut carefully with a drywall saw or hole cutter. Trimless models need deeper space and extra setup for a seamless finish.
  3. Install the mounting hardware or fixture housing — recessed and trimless designs insert into the ceiling cavity and secure with spring clips or fasteners (trimless may need joist framing); semi-recessed fixtures partially install per the included instructions; surface-mounted downlights attach directly with screws and wall anchors; track fixtures need a compatible track system first, then lock into place.
  4. Connect the wiring — black to black, white to white, green or bare to ground. Secure each with a wire nut and tuck neatly back into the housing or box.
  5. Final assembly — trimless fixtures get mudded and feathered into the ceiling plane before painting; recessed, semi-recessed, and surface fixtures finish by twisting or snapping the trim or body into place; track lights get positioned and rotated along the rail after locking in.
  6. Restore power and test — use the wall switch or dimmer to verify proper operation.

Good to know

  • Professional installation is recommended for trimless or recessed downlights, especially with mudding or insulation involved.
  • Follow local electrical codes and regulations.
  • Use only compatible drivers and dimmers for your fixture.
  • Keep safe spacing from insulation in ceiling cavities to prevent overheating.

The build

Aluminiumbuilt to hold its finish for decades

The Tapio's aluminium body resists corrosion, scratching, and heat — the things that degrade most recessed lights over time. The acrylic diffuser softens the LED output so corridors and display spaces get even light rather than a harsh spot. Install it once and leave it.

Innovative engineering · intelligent design
The Tapio's three structural advantages.
Long life

Integrated LED rated past 50,000 hours — decades of use without a bulb change.

Flush form

Sits completely flush — the ceiling stays clean and uninterrupted.

Tough build

Aluminium body resists corrosion and rust in hallways, aisles, and humid spaces.

Frequently asked

The Tapio Tapio is built from aluminium and acrylic. The aluminium body handles heat and resists corrosion, while the acrylic diffuser softens the LED output into an even, glare-free wash.

The Tapio Tapio's integrated LED is rated past 50,000 hours — roughly 17 years at eight hours of daily use. Nothing to replace; the LED and fixture are designed as one unit.

It requires cutting the ceiling to the appropriate diameter, then hardwiring into the electrical box. The included driver connects to the power source. Nava recommends professional installation by a certified electrician.

90–260V — works on both North American and international wiring without any additional transformer or adapter.

Yes — the aluminium construction is specifically resistant to corrosion and rust, making it suitable for high-traffic corridors, aisles, and spaces with variable humidity.

The Tapio Tapio suits corridors, aisles, hallways, display rooms, retail spaces, and residential living areas. Available in black or white to match the ceiling finish.

Clean, bright, downward-directed light through an acrylic diffuser. The diffuser removes hotspots and creates an even wash — practical for task-lit spaces without the harshness of a bare LED.

The included driver connects between the mains supply and the downlight wiring. Cut the ceiling hole to the correct diameter, feed the cable through, and wire according to the included instructions. Professional installation recommended.

Two finishes: matte black and white. Both options sit flush and blend with the ceiling, so the light source is what reads in the room rather than the fixture itself.

The Tapio Tapio is sloped-ceiling compatible, so the head can angle to direct light where needed. For dimming, request the dimmer-configured version at checkout — standard integrated LED is non-dimming.
