The Object

Recessed and invisibleonly the light remains

The Squall Downlight sits inside the ceiling rather than on it. No trim ring, no housing lip — just a flush, painted surface with light coming through. The LED is efficient and compatible with smart home controls, so you can dim and shift colour temperature without changing a thing about the look of the ceiling. Available in multiple sizes and colour temperatures to suit residential and commercial installs.
Why you'll love it
  • Trimless design — blends into the ceiling with no visible frame
  • Smart home compatible — control via standard switch or app
  • Efficient LED technology — low running cost, long life
  • Multiple sizes and colour temperatures available
  • Suits both residential rooms and commercial spaces
Details

The install depends on your mount type — trimless, recessed, semi-recessed, surface, or track — so confirm which one you have before you start.

Before you begin

  • Mounting — trimless, recessed, semi-recessed, surface-mounted, or track-mounted; confirm the type in your product listing
  • Ceilings — most models suit drywall; some also work with concrete or drop ceilings, check the technical documentation
  • Dimming — many designs dim when paired with compatible drivers and wall dimmers
  • Power — hardwired, connects directly to a ceiling electrical junction
  • Trimless — may need professional finishing or flush-mount drywall work
  • Track — installs onto a compatible rail system; check your product's specification for track type

What you'll need

  • Drill, keyhole or drywall saw (for recessed or trimless)
  • Screwdriver, voltage tester, wire stripper
  • Wire nuts (included with most fixtures), screws and wall anchors (for surface mounting)
  • Level, measuring tape or pencil

Step by step

  1. Turn off the power — at the breaker panel, and confirm with a voltage tester.
  2. Prepare the ceiling opening (recessed and trimless only) — mark your opening with the provided template and cut carefully with a drywall saw or hole cutter. Trimless models need deeper space and extra setup for a seamless finish.
  3. Install the mounting hardware or fixture housing — recessed and trimless designs insert into the ceiling cavity and secure with spring clips or fasteners (trimless may need joist framing); semi-recessed fixtures partially install per the included instructions; surface-mounted downlights attach directly with screws and wall anchors; track fixtures need a compatible track system first, then lock into place.
  4. Connect the wiring — black to black, white to white, green or bare to ground. Secure each with a wire nut and tuck neatly back into the housing or box.
  5. Final assembly — trimless fixtures get mudded and feathered into the ceiling plane before painting; recessed, semi-recessed, and surface fixtures finish by twisting or snapping the trim or body into place; track lights get positioned and rotated along the rail after locking in.
  6. Restore power and test — use the wall switch or dimmer to verify proper operation.

Good to know

  • Professional installation is recommended for trimless or recessed downlights, especially with mudding or insulation involved.
  • Follow local electrical codes and regulations.
  • Use only compatible drivers and dimmers for your fixture.
  • Keep safe spacing from insulation in ceiling cavities to prevent overheating.

How it's made

No trim ringceiling finishes flush over it

A trimless downlight is plastered and painted over after installation so nothing shows at the ceiling surface except the aperture itself. The Squall Downlight is designed for this process — its housing accepts plaster at the lip so the transition from ceiling to light is completely seamless.

Frequently asked

The Squall Downlight uses high-quality components rated for long-term recessed installation. The housing is designed to accept ceiling plaster at the lip for a true trimless finish.

A trimless downlight eliminates the visible ring that traditional recessed lights leave on the ceiling. The Squall Downlight sits flush after plastering, so the ceiling looks continuous — only the light aperture shows.

Recessed trimless installation requires cutting a ceiling aperture, wiring, plastering the lip, and painting. We recommend a qualified electrician and plasterer for the Squall Downlight to achieve the intended flush result.

Very little — the Squall Downlight's LED is long-life and the flush surface requires only occasional light dusting. Because there's no trim ring, there are no edges to accumulate dust.

The Squall Downlight uses integrated LED that consumes significantly less energy than equivalent halogen or incandescent downlights, reducing running costs over its lifetime.

Yes — the Squall Downlight is compatible with standard smart home systems, including voice control and app-based scheduling. It also works with a conventional wall switch for simpler setups.

Because the Squall Downlight has no visible trim, it works in any interior — minimal, traditional, or maximalist — without adding a design element of its own. The ceiling simply glows.

Yes — the Squall Downlight is designed for both contexts. Residentially it suits living rooms, kitchens, and bathrooms; commercially it works in retail, hospitality, and office spaces.

Multiple colour temperatures are available for the Squall Downlight — from warm white (2700–3000K) to neutral and cool white (4000–6000K). Contact us with your specification and we'll confirm availability.

By removing the fixture from view, the Squall Downlight makes the light itself the feature — a clean wash with no visible housing. It suits minimalist ceilings where you want illumination without hardware on show.
