Installation Guide

No wiring here — just careful measuring, drilling, and mounting. Mortice locks take a bit more patience than a simple knob.

Before you begin

  • Mounting — surface installation on doors, drawers, or cabinetry; check your product's dimensions for placement and drilling points

What you'll need

  • Screwdriver (Phillips and flathead), drill and drill bits, Allen key
  • Tape measure, pencil, level
  • Chisel (for mortice lock installation)
  • Screws and anchors, safety goggles

Step by step

  1. Cabinet hardware — mark drilling points — use a tape measure and pencil; a template helps for uniformity across multiple pieces.
  2. Cabinet hardware — drill holes — use a bit matched to the screw diameter, keeping the drill straight.
  3. Cabinet hardware — mount — insert screws from inside the cabinet or drawer, secure the hardware on the front face, and tighten without overtightening.
  4. Cabinet hardware — align and inspect — confirm straightness and spacing before fully securing.
  5. Thumb lock or dummy handle — confirm orientation — determine left- or right-hand door swing and adjust as needed.
  6. Thumb lock or dummy handle — mark installation height — typically 36–38 inches from the floor to the handle center; align the mounting plate.
  7. Thumb lock or dummy handle — drill and attach — drill pilot holes and secure the backplate and handle with the included screws. Dummy handles install directly, no latch mechanism.
  8. Thumb lock only — install the strike plate — mark the latch location on the door frame, chisel a recess if needed, and screw the strike plate in.
  9. Mortice lock — cut the mortice pocket — use a chisel and drill to create a cavity in the door edge, following the provided measurements.
  10. Mortice lock — insert the lock body — fit it into the cavity and attach through the faceplate with screws.
  11. Mortice lock — install the handle — align the spindle through the lock, attach handles on both sides, and tighten with a screwdriver or Allen key.
  12. Mortice lock — install the cylinder (if applicable) — insert the key cylinder and secure with the cylinder screw from the door edge.
  13. Mortice lock — mount the strike plate — align with the latch mechanism and secure to the door frame.

Good to know

  • Double-check measurements before drilling.
  • Use a level for consistent alignment across multiple units.
  • If you're unfamiliar with mortice installation, consult a locksmith or professional.
  • Make sure all moving parts operate smoothly before final tightening.
  • Dummy handles are decorative or pull-only — they don't engage latches or locks.

Segments — one curve, repeated

Rather than a single smooth bar, Salas breaks its length into softly defined segments, each one catching light at a slightly different angle. That repetition gives the piece a quiet, considered rhythm rather than a plain straight line. Turned vertically as a knob or horizontally as a pull, the same detail carries through.

Innovative engineering. Intelligent design.

Frequently Asked Questions

What material is the Salas Knob & Pull Bar made from?

Solid brass, chosen for the way it develops a warm, natural patina with regular handling over the years.

Will the brass finish change over time?

Yes, gradually — the brass finish will deepen and pick up subtle character from handling, which many people prefer to a finish that stays static.

What type of spaces is it suited for?

It works especially well in kitchens, wardrobes, and bathroom vanities where a sculptural, slightly warmer hardware detail suits the cabinetry.

Where can the Salas Knob & Pull Bar be installed?

It can go on kitchen cabinets, wardrobes, bathroom vanities, or custom furniture, with six pull bar lengths to fit different door and drawer sizes.

How is the Salas Knob & Pull Bar constructed?

It's built from solid brass in a softly segmented form, cast and finished so each contoured section reads clearly along the piece.

What defines its shape?

A series of smooth, rounded segments run along its length, giving it a sculptural rhythm rather than a single flat bar.

How does the finish affect its appearance?

The brass and vintage brass options give it a warm, muted glow, while the chrome finish offers a cooler, more contemporary look.

Is it comfortable to use daily?

Yes — the ergonomic grip style is shaped for a secure, comfortable hold, even with repeated daily use.

What visual effect does it create on cabinetry?

Its segmented curves add subtle architectural character to cabinet doors and drawers, without feeling overly ornate.

Why choose unlacquered brass over coated finishes?

Unlacquered brass ages naturally and develops a living patina over time, while coated finishes stay fixed — it comes down to whether you want that hardware to visibly evolve.
