The Object

Wood gripped oncebrass holding it true

The Saffle is a cylindrical bar of wood, mounted between polished brass end caps, in light or dark finish. The smooth tactile surface suits a hand without ceremony — no ridges, no knurling, just the warmth of wood pulled toward you. Nine lengths from 10 to 38 cm let you match it to almost any cabinet, drawer, or wardrobe front.
Why you'll love it
  • Smooth cylindrical wood grip — natural warmth in the hand every time
  • Polished brass end mounts add quiet reflective contrast
  • Light and dark wood finishes — adapts to most interior palettes
  • Nine lengths from 10.6 cm to 38 cm for any cabinet or drawer
  • Durable wood-and-brass construction — no plastic parts to fail
Details

No wiring here — just careful measuring, drilling, and mounting. Mortice locks take a bit more patience than a simple knob.

Before you begin

  • Mounting — surface installation on doors, drawers, or cabinetry; check your product's dimensions for placement and drilling points

What you'll need

  • Screwdriver (Phillips and flathead), drill and drill bits, Allen key
  • Tape measure, pencil, level
  • Chisel (for mortice lock installation)
  • Screws and anchors, safety goggles

Step by step

  1. Cabinet hardware — mark drilling points — use a tape measure and pencil; a template helps for uniformity across multiple pieces.
  2. Cabinet hardware — drill holes — use a bit matched to the screw diameter, keeping the drill straight.
  3. Cabinet hardware — mount — insert screws from inside the cabinet or drawer, secure the hardware on the front face, and tighten without overtightening.
  4. Cabinet hardware — align and inspect — confirm straightness and spacing before fully securing.
  5. Thumb lock or dummy handle — confirm orientation — determine left- or right-hand door swing and adjust as needed.
  6. Thumb lock or dummy handle — mark installation height — typically 36–38 inches from the floor to the handle center; align the mounting plate.
  7. Thumb lock or dummy handle — drill and attach — drill pilot holes and secure the backplate and handle with the included screws. Dummy handles install directly, no latch mechanism.
  8. Thumb lock only — install the strike plate — mark the latch location on the door frame, chisel a recess if needed, and screw the strike plate in.
  9. Mortice lock — cut the mortice pocket — use a chisel and drill to create a cavity in the door edge, following the provided measurements.
  10. Mortice lock — insert the lock body — fit it into the cavity and attach through the faceplate with screws.
  11. Mortice lock — install the handle — align the spindle through the lock, attach handles on both sides, and tighten with a screwdriver or Allen key.
  12. Mortice lock — install the cylinder (if applicable) — insert the key cylinder and secure with the cylinder screw from the door edge.
  13. Mortice lock — mount the strike plate — align with the latch mechanism and secure to the door frame.

Good to know

  • Double-check measurements before drilling.
  • Use a level for consistent alignment across multiple units.
  • If you're unfamiliar with mortice installation, consult a locksmith or professional.
  • Make sure all moving parts operate smoothly before final tightening.
  • Dummy handles are decorative or pull-only — they don't engage latches or locks.

The detail

Brass cap on wood barsmall thing, daily use

The Saffle's character comes from a simple contrast: warm wood cylinder between two polished brass caps. The proportions are kept tight — the brass doesn't dominate, the wood doesn't disappear. It's a hardware detail you interact with dozens of times a day, and one that improves the hand-feel of any door or drawer it's fitted to.

Innovative engineering · intelligent design

Frequently asked

The Saffle is made from solid wood for the cylindrical grip and polished brass for the end mounts. Both materials are chosen for durability and daily-use comfort. There are no plastic components — the bar is built to maintain its feel and appearance over years of handling.

The Saffle suits kitchen cabinet fronts, chest of drawer handles, wardrobe pulls, and custom furniture. Its clean cylindrical form and neutral wood-and-brass palette mean it integrates into most joinery without competing with the surrounding design.

Yes — the Saffle works well in contemporary, Scandinavian, minimalist, and transitional interiors. The combination of smooth wood and polished brass is warm without being traditional, making it a practical hardware choice for modern kitchens and bedrooms.

The Saffle's defining quality is the contrast between smooth natural wood — warm in the hand — and the precise polished brass end caps. Most hardware favours one material; the Saffle pairs them deliberately. It's a small detail that changes the feel of every door or drawer it's fitted to.

Yes — the Saffle is built for daily use in kitchen environments. The wood and brass finishes are chosen for resilience; wipe down with a dry cloth after cooking. Avoid prolonged exposure to moisture directly on the wood cylinder.

Yes — solid wood and brass are among the most durable hardware materials available. The Saffle has no plastic parts that can crack or discolour over time. Under normal use, the bar will outlast the furniture it's fitted to.

Yes — the Saffle is available in nine bar lengths from 10.6 to 38 cm, plus a knob option. Hole-to-hole spacing ranges from 6.4 to 32 cm depending on the size, so you can match it to standard or custom cabinet drilling patterns.

The Saffle needs minimal maintenance. Wipe the wood cylinder with a dry cloth; occasional conditioning with a small amount of natural wood oil will preserve the finish. Clean the brass caps with a soft cloth — avoid abrasive materials that can scratch the polish.

Yes — the Saffle includes all mounting screws needed for installation. Fitting requires a drill and screwdriver; no specialist tools. For custom joinery or non-standard cabinet depths, contact our team and we can advise on suitable screw lengths.

The Saffle complements Scandinavian, minimalist, contemporary, and rustic interiors with equal ease. The light wood finish pairs naturally with white or natural-wood cabinetry; the dark finish works well against deeper or painted cabinet fronts. The brass mount suits both.
