The Object

Grip it oncethe knurl holds

The Ranville Handle is a knurled cylinder in zinc alloy, shaped to fill the hand and turn without effort. The texture is architectural — fine enough to read as a design choice, functional enough to grip securely every time. Choose the complete passage lock set for doors that need a latch, or the standalone knobs for closets, wardrobes, and rooms that stay open. Black or silver; built for residential and commercial use.
Why you'll love it
  • Knurled cylindrical form — secure grip and bold silhouette
  • Zinc alloy construction — durable, corrosion-resistant
  • Passage lock or standalone knobs — choose your configuration
  • Black or silver, suits most modern and industrial interiors
  • Smooth mechanism — effortless daily operation
Details

No wiring here — just careful measuring, drilling, and mounting. Mortice locks take a bit more patience than a simple knob.

Before you begin

  • Mounting — surface installation on doors, drawers, or cabinetry; check your product's dimensions for placement and drilling points

What you'll need

  • Screwdriver (Phillips and flathead), drill and drill bits, Allen key
  • Tape measure, pencil, level
  • Chisel (for mortice lock installation)
  • Screws and anchors, safety goggles

Step by step

  1. Cabinet hardware — mark drilling points — use a tape measure and pencil; a template helps for uniformity across multiple pieces.
  2. Cabinet hardware — drill holes — use a bit matched to the screw diameter, keeping the drill straight.
  3. Cabinet hardware — mount — insert screws from inside the cabinet or drawer, secure the hardware on the front face, and tighten without overtightening.
  4. Cabinet hardware — align and inspect — confirm straightness and spacing before fully securing.
  5. Thumb lock or dummy handle — confirm orientation — determine left- or right-hand door swing and adjust as needed.
  6. Thumb lock or dummy handle — mark installation height — typically 36–38 inches from the floor to the handle center; align the mounting plate.
  7. Thumb lock or dummy handle — drill and attach — drill pilot holes and secure the backplate and handle with the included screws. Dummy handles install directly, no latch mechanism.
  8. Thumb lock only — install the strike plate — mark the latch location on the door frame, chisel a recess if needed, and screw the strike plate in.
  9. Mortice lock — cut the mortice pocket — use a chisel and drill to create a cavity in the door edge, following the provided measurements.
  10. Mortice lock — insert the lock body — fit it into the cavity and attach through the faceplate with screws.
  11. Mortice lock — install the handle — align the spindle through the lock, attach handles on both sides, and tighten with a screwdriver or Allen key.
  12. Mortice lock — install the cylinder (if applicable) — insert the key cylinder and secure with the cylinder screw from the door edge.
  13. Mortice lock — mount the strike plate — align with the latch mechanism and secure to the door frame.

Good to know

  • Double-check measurements before drilling.
  • Use a level for consistent alignment across multiple units.
  • If you're unfamiliar with mortice installation, consult a locksmith or professional.
  • Make sure all moving parts operate smoothly before final tightening.
  • Dummy handles are decorative or pull-only — they don't engage latches or locks.

How it works

Knurled zincturns smooth, holds firm

The Ranville's knurled surface is cut into the zinc alloy body before finishing, giving the texture depth rather than a surface pattern that could wear off. The internal passage mechanism is engineered for a smooth quarter-turn every time — no stickiness, no resistance. Black finish is a dark matte; silver is a satin tone that doesn't show fingerprints.

Frequently asked

The Ranville Handle is made from zinc alloy — a dense, corrosion-resistant material that gives the knob its solid weight and holds the knurled finish without wearing down over time.

The Ranville Handle comes in black and silver. Black is a dark matte finish; silver is a satin tone that resists fingerprint marks in daily use.

The Ranville Handle is available as a complete passage lock set — with a full latch mechanism — or as standalone knobs without a lock, for doors that don't need to latch.

A passage lock set means the Ranville Handle includes a latch that engages when the door closes, keeping it shut without requiring a key. Suitable for bedrooms, closets, and hallways.

The standalone Ranville Handle knobs are purely functional grip points — ideal for wardrobe doors, room dividers, and doors that are held open by magnets or stays rather than a latch.

The Ranville Handle fits standard residential door thicknesses. Contact our team with your door spec and we'll confirm compatibility before your order ships.

Yes — the Ranville Handle ships with all mounting hardware for a complete install. We recommend a professional for the passage lock set, though the standalone knobs are straightforward to fit.

No — the Ranville Handle's knurling is functional. It provides real grip when turning the knob, particularly useful in kitchens and bathrooms where hands may be wet or slippery.

The Ranville Handle works on any modern interior door — bedrooms, closets, hallways, and commercial spaces. It suits minimalist, industrial, and contemporary interiors particularly well.

Wipe the Ranville Handle with a dry or very lightly damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or chemical sprays that could mark the zinc finish. No oiling or sealing is required.
