The Object

Knob or barbrass either way

The Qaanaaq Knob offers two forms in one finish: a small round knob for a single-point pull, and a longer bar in two hole-spacings for wider doors and drawers. Both are solid brass in a polished finish — heavier than the replicas, consistent in colour across the full set. At 56–170 g each, they give drawers a satisfying weight when you pull them open.
Why you'll love it
  • Solid brass — warm, weighty, consistent across a full set
  • Knob or pull bar — two forms, one finish
  • Two bar hole-spacings: 9.6 cm and 12.8 cm
  • Polished finish — holds its tone with light upkeep
  • Works on cabinets, drawers, wardrobes, and wine racks
Details

No wiring here — just careful measuring, drilling, and mounting. Mortice locks take a bit more patience than a simple knob.

Before you begin

  • Mounting — surface installation on doors, drawers, or cabinetry; check your product's dimensions for placement and drilling points

What you'll need

  • Screwdriver (Phillips and flathead), drill and drill bits, Allen key
  • Tape measure, pencil, level
  • Chisel (for mortice lock installation)
  • Screws and anchors, safety goggles

Step by step

  1. Cabinet hardware — mark drilling points — use a tape measure and pencil; a template helps for uniformity across multiple pieces.
  2. Cabinet hardware — drill holes — use a bit matched to the screw diameter, keeping the drill straight.
  3. Cabinet hardware — mount — insert screws from inside the cabinet or drawer, secure the hardware on the front face, and tighten without overtightening.
  4. Cabinet hardware — align and inspect — confirm straightness and spacing before fully securing.
  5. Thumb lock or dummy handle — confirm orientation — determine left- or right-hand door swing and adjust as needed.
  6. Thumb lock or dummy handle — mark installation height — typically 36–38 inches from the floor to the handle center; align the mounting plate.
  7. Thumb lock or dummy handle — drill and attach — drill pilot holes and secure the backplate and handle with the included screws. Dummy handles install directly, no latch mechanism.
  8. Thumb lock only — install the strike plate — mark the latch location on the door frame, chisel a recess if needed, and screw the strike plate in.
  9. Mortice lock — cut the mortice pocket — use a chisel and drill to create a cavity in the door edge, following the provided measurements.
  10. Mortice lock — insert the lock body — fit it into the cavity and attach through the faceplate with screws.
  11. Mortice lock — install the handle — align the spindle through the lock, attach handles on both sides, and tighten with a screwdriver or Allen key.
  12. Mortice lock — install the cylinder (if applicable) — insert the key cylinder and secure with the cylinder screw from the door edge.
  13. Mortice lock — mount the strike plate — align with the latch mechanism and secure to the door frame.

Good to know

  • Double-check measurements before drilling.
  • Use a level for consistent alignment across multiple units.
  • If you're unfamiliar with mortice installation, consult a locksmith or professional.
  • Make sure all moving parts operate smoothly before final tightening.
  • Dummy handles are decorative or pull-only — they don't engage latches or locks.

On the material

Solid brasspolished and held in the hand

Solid brass differs from brass-plated hardware in one practical way — the colour goes all the way through, so if the surface is ever scuffed or worn at a contact point, the material underneath reads the same. The Qaanaaq is finished by polishing rather than lacquering, which means the surface can be touched up over time and develops a subtle warmth with use.

Frequently asked

Yes — both the knob and the pull bar mount with a single bolt through the cabinet face. Drill one or two pilot holes to match the hole spacing, thread the bolt, and tighten. No specialist tools needed.

Solid brass throughout — not plated. The colour and weight are consistent from the face to the back of the fitting, so there's no thin coating to chip or wear through.

Brass hardware has been a consistent fixture in interiors for centuries. The Qaanaaq's smooth, polished form avoids any specific period reference, so it reads at home in both older properties and contemporary kitchens.

Yes — solid brass holds up well under repeated daily contact. The polished finish develops a patina over time at the most-touched points, which most people find adds character rather than looking like wear.

Wipe with a dry cloth to remove fingerprints. For a deeper clean, a brass polish applied occasionally will restore the original shine. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners that strip the surface.

The knob is sized to sit naturally between thumb and forefinger — small enough not to obstruct, large enough to grip without effort. The bars are smooth and rounded at the edges, comfortable for a full-hand pull.

Nava offers 14-day returns. If the hole spacing doesn't match your cabinets or the size doesn't work, contact us within 14 days of delivery. Free worldwide shipping applies to all Qaanaaq orders.

The knob's height-to-diameter ratio makes it easy to pinch and turn without strain. The bars are long enough for a natural pull grip — neither too short to hold nor too long to look out of proportion on a standard cabinet door.

Solid brass is one of the more durable hardware materials — it doesn't corrode under indoor conditions, and surface wear is slow and even rather than patchy or sudden. The Qaanaaq carries a 1-year warranty, extendable.

Yes — mounting bolts and any required fixings are included. The hole spacings (9.6 cm and 12.8 cm for the bars) match standard cabinet drill patterns, so in most cases no adaptation is needed.
