The Object

Knurled vertical linesgrip and finish in one

The Paamiut Knob is solid brass with vertical lines knurled into the surface — the pattern gives real grip on a small door or drawer, not just a decorative texture. The matching pull bar shares the same knurling in three hole-spacings: 9.6, 12.8, or 19.2 cm. Gold or chrome finish. Small enough for a side table drawer, scaled for wardrobe doors. A detail you touch constantly, made to hold up.
Why you'll love it
  • Solid brass with knurled vertical lines — grip and form as one
  • Knob and pull bar available, same design language throughout
  • Three pull-bar hole spacings: 9.6, 12.8, and 19.2 cm
  • Gold or chrome finish — suits both warm and cool room palettes
  • Compact footprint: knob D2 cm x H3.7 cm, pull up to 25.2 cm
Details

No wiring here — just careful measuring, drilling, and mounting. Mortice locks take a bit more patience than a simple knob.

Before you begin

  • Mounting — surface installation on doors, drawers, or cabinetry; check your product's dimensions for placement and drilling points

What you'll need

  • Screwdriver (Phillips and flathead), drill and drill bits, Allen key
  • Tape measure, pencil, level
  • Chisel (for mortice lock installation)
  • Screws and anchors, safety goggles

Step by step

  1. Cabinet hardware — mark drilling points — use a tape measure and pencil; a template helps for uniformity across multiple pieces.
  2. Cabinet hardware — drill holes — use a bit matched to the screw diameter, keeping the drill straight.
  3. Cabinet hardware — mount — insert screws from inside the cabinet or drawer, secure the hardware on the front face, and tighten without overtightening.
  4. Cabinet hardware — align and inspect — confirm straightness and spacing before fully securing.
  5. Thumb lock or dummy handle — confirm orientation — determine left- or right-hand door swing and adjust as needed.
  6. Thumb lock or dummy handle — mark installation height — typically 36–38 inches from the floor to the handle center; align the mounting plate.
  7. Thumb lock or dummy handle — drill and attach — drill pilot holes and secure the backplate and handle with the included screws. Dummy handles install directly, no latch mechanism.
  8. Thumb lock only — install the strike plate — mark the latch location on the door frame, chisel a recess if needed, and screw the strike plate in.
  9. Mortice lock — cut the mortice pocket — use a chisel and drill to create a cavity in the door edge, following the provided measurements.
  10. Mortice lock — insert the lock body — fit it into the cavity and attach through the faceplate with screws.
  11. Mortice lock — install the handle — align the spindle through the lock, attach handles on both sides, and tighten with a screwdriver or Allen key.
  12. Mortice lock — install the cylinder (if applicable) — insert the key cylinder and secure with the cylinder screw from the door edge.
  13. Mortice lock — mount the strike plate — align with the latch mechanism and secure to the door frame.

Good to know

  • Double-check measurements before drilling.
  • Use a level for consistent alignment across multiple units.
  • If you're unfamiliar with mortice installation, consult a locksmith or professional.
  • Make sure all moving parts operate smoothly before final tightening.
  • Dummy handles are decorative or pull-only — they don't engage latches or locks.

The finish

Vertical groovespressed into solid brass

The Paamiut Knob's knurling is machined vertically into the brass surface, so each groove runs from top to base on the knob and edge to edge on the pull bar. The result is a texture that reads fine and regular up close, almost like a woven surface, and confidently minimal from a distance. Gold finish for warm rooms; chrome for cooler, more contemporary palettes.
