The Object

Lit from withina garden overhead

The Mortar Chandelier arranges ceramic and glass leaves around a slender aluminium frame, each element catching the light and releasing it gently downward. Nothing glares. The glow moves through the piece in layers — warm where the petals cluster, softer where they thin — so the ceiling feels alive rather than lit. Multiple configurations, from 80 cm across to nearly 2 m.
Why you'll love it
  • Ceramic and glass leaves diffuse light into a warm, layered glow
  • Aluminium frame keeps the composition balanced overhead
  • Multiple sizes — 80 cm to 170 cm or wider, shaped to your space
  • Replaceable G4 LEDs, 50,000 hours, dimmable on request
  • Suits living rooms, dining rooms, and grand entryways alike
Details

A standard hardwired ceiling install — most of it is switching off the power and matching three wires. Set your hanging height before you connect anything, and you're most of the way there.

Before you begin

  • Mounting — to a standard ceiling junction box
  • Power — hardwired to your mains supply
  • Dimming — socketed bulbs dim; integrated-LED models don't
  • Drop — arrives at 47" (1.2 m); want it shorter or longer? Just email us before it ships
  • Ceilings — flat, and most sloped (check the product specs)

What you'll need

  • Screwdriver, voltage tester, wire stripper
  • Wire nuts (included), ladder
  • Drill (only for a new junction box or non-standard ceiling)

Step by step

  1. Turn off the power — switch off the lighting circuit at the breaker, then confirm it's dead with a voltage tester.
  2. Mount the bracket — fasten the included bracket to the junction box, snug and level.
  3. Set your height — before wiring, adjust the cord, chain, or downrod to your drop and lock it at the canopy.
  4. Connect the wires — black to black, white to white, green or bare to ground. Secure each with a wire nut and tuck them into the box.
  5. Attach the fixture — line the canopy up with the bracket and fix it flush with the provided screws or caps.
  6. Add the bulbs — correct type and wattage; if dimming, check the bulbs match your wall dimmer.
  7. Power on and test.

Good to know

  • Follow your local electrical codes.
  • For high or angled ceilings, or anything complex, bring in a licensed electrician.
  • Don't over-tighten decorative parts; dust gently with a soft cloth.

On the form

Ceramic and glassshaped like a canopy

Each leaf is pressed from ceramic or formed from glass, then attached individually to metal wires on the aluminium frame. The assembly creates a layered composition that shifts as you move beneath it. Light slips between the forms, brushing outward rather than pointing down.

Innovative engineering · intelligent design
Three reasons the Mortar Chandelier holds a room.
Layered glow

Light filters through ceramic and glass leaves, spreading softly rather than pooling in a single spot.

Balanced frame

The aluminium structure keeps every element evenly spaced, so the form feels considered, not chaotic.

Scales to size

Multiple configurations from 80 cm to over 170 cm — one design that fits a breakfast nook or a grand room.

Material & craft

Ceramicshaped by hand, fired to hold

Each ceramic element is individually formed and fired before being mounted on the frame. The material is dense enough to feel substantial but translucent enough to carry the light through — warm where it's thickest, luminous at the edges.

Design statement

Gatheredlike a garden at the ceiling

The Mortar does not hang quietly. Ceramic and glass leaves cluster around the frame, each one catching the light and releasing it at a slightly different angle — so the room below feels layered rather than lit. It changes as you move beneath it.
