Installation Guide

No wiring here — just careful measuring, drilling, and mounting. Mortice locks take a bit more patience than a simple knob.

Before you begin

  • Mounting — surface installation on doors, drawers, or cabinetry; check your product's dimensions for placement and drilling points

What you'll need

  • Screwdriver (Phillips and flathead), drill and drill bits, Allen key
  • Tape measure, pencil, level
  • Chisel (for mortice lock installation)
  • Screws and anchors, safety goggles

Step by step

  1. Cabinet hardware — mark drilling points — use a tape measure and pencil; a template helps for uniformity across multiple pieces.
  2. Cabinet hardware — drill holes — use a bit matched to the screw diameter, keeping the drill straight.
  3. Cabinet hardware — mount — insert screws from inside the cabinet or drawer, secure the hardware on the front face, and tighten without overtightening.
  4. Cabinet hardware — align and inspect — confirm straightness and spacing before fully securing.
  5. Thumb lock or dummy handle — confirm orientation — determine left- or right-hand door swing and adjust as needed.
  6. Thumb lock or dummy handle — mark installation height — typically 36–38 inches from the floor to the handle center; align the mounting plate.
  7. Thumb lock or dummy handle — drill and attach — drill pilot holes and secure the backplate and handle with the included screws. Dummy handles install directly, no latch mechanism.
  8. Thumb lock only — install the strike plate — mark the latch location on the door frame, chisel a recess if needed, and screw the strike plate in.
  9. Mortice lock — cut the mortice pocket — use a chisel and drill to create a cavity in the door edge, following the provided measurements.
  10. Mortice lock — insert the lock body — fit it into the cavity and attach through the faceplate with screws.
  11. Mortice lock — install the handle — align the spindle through the lock, attach handles on both sides, and tighten with a screwdriver or Allen key.
  12. Mortice lock — install the cylinder (if applicable) — insert the key cylinder and secure with the cylinder screw from the door edge.
  13. Mortice lock — mount the strike plate — align with the latch mechanism and secure to the door frame.

Good to know

  • Double-check measurements before drilling.
  • Use a level for consistent alignment across multiple units.
  • If you're unfamiliar with mortice installation, consult a locksmith or professional.
  • Make sure all moving parts operate smoothly before final tightening.
  • Dummy handles are decorative or pull-only — they don't engage latches or locks.

Steps — giving a small knob real form

Most knobs are a single curve from base to face. Monachil breaks that up with a stepped base beneath the dome, adding a subtle bit of architecture that shows even at this scale. It's the kind of detail you notice more with your fingers than your eyes.

Innovative engineering. Intelligent design.

Frequently Asked Questions

What material is the Monachil Knob made from?

Solid brass, giving it a reassuring weight that a hollow or plated knob doesn't have, and a finish that ages with real character.

What design style does this knob feature?

A structured, architectural style — a domed face sits on a stepped base, adding quiet definition rather than a single plain curve.

What type of finish does the knob have?

Gold or chrome, both applied over solid brass so the underlying weight and quality stay the same regardless of which you choose.

Is the Monachil Knob suitable for modern interiors?

Yes, its rounded, balanced silhouette works in contemporary kitchens and bathrooms, while the warm gold option also suits more classic rooms.

Where can this cabinet knob be used?

Kitchen cabinets, wardrobes, bathroom vanities, and furniture drawers — a versatile size for most standard cabinet and door applications.

Does the knurled detailing serve a purpose?

The knob's texture comes from its domed and stepped shape rather than knurling — the smooth surface still provides secure, comfortable grip.

Is the knob comfortable for daily use?

Yes, the smooth domed face and solid weight make it easy to grip and turn, holding up well to frequent daily opening.

Will the brass construction last over time?

Yes — solid brass resists cracking or wearing thin, and any surface change over the years shows as patina rather than damage.

Does this knob add a decorative element to furniture?

Yes, the stepped base gives it a bit more visual presence than a plain round knob, without becoming an ornate or busy detail.

What interior styles does this knob suit best?

Both contemporary and classic interiors — the structured dome-and-step form and choice of gold or chrome finish adapt to either direction.
