The Object

Recessed flushcolour shows true beneath

The Mica Downlight sits flush in the ceiling and disappears — what remains is the light it gives. With a CRI above 90, colours in the room read as they would in daylight: fabric textures, artwork, food, skin tones. The 30-degree beam angle focuses the wash without scattering it, and the IP52 rating handles bathroom and kitchen humidity. Die-cast aluminium body, 80,000-hour integrated LED, black or white in two sizes.
Why you'll love it
  • CRI>90 — colours in the room render as they do in daylight
  • 30-degree beam angle — focused wash, no spill to adjacent surfaces
  • IP52 moisture rating — kitchen and bathroom compatible
  • 80,000-hour LED life — decades before any maintenance
  • Die-cast aluminium — two sizes, black or white
Details

The install depends on your mount type — trimless, recessed, semi-recessed, surface, or track — so confirm which one you have before you start.

Before you begin

  • Mounting — trimless, recessed, semi-recessed, surface-mounted, or track-mounted; confirm the type in your product listing
  • Ceilings — most models suit drywall; some also work with concrete or drop ceilings, check the technical documentation
  • Dimming — many designs dim when paired with compatible drivers and wall dimmers
  • Power — hardwired, connects directly to a ceiling electrical junction
  • Trimless — may need professional finishing or flush-mount drywall work
  • Track — installs onto a compatible rail system; check your product's specification for track type

What you'll need

  • Drill, keyhole or drywall saw (for recessed or trimless)
  • Screwdriver, voltage tester, wire stripper
  • Wire nuts (included with most fixtures), screws and wall anchors (for surface mounting)
  • Level, measuring tape or pencil

Step by step

  1. Turn off the power — at the breaker panel, and confirm with a voltage tester.
  2. Prepare the ceiling opening (recessed and trimless only) — mark your opening with the provided template and cut carefully with a drywall saw or hole cutter. Trimless models need deeper space and extra setup for a seamless finish.
  3. Install the mounting hardware or fixture housing — recessed and trimless designs insert into the ceiling cavity and secure with spring clips or fasteners (trimless may need joist framing); semi-recessed fixtures partially install per the included instructions; surface-mounted downlights attach directly with screws and wall anchors; track fixtures need a compatible track system first, then lock into place.
  4. Connect the wiring — black to black, white to white, green or bare to ground. Secure each with a wire nut and tuck neatly back into the housing or box.
  5. Final assembly — trimless fixtures get mudded and feathered into the ceiling plane before painting; recessed, semi-recessed, and surface fixtures finish by twisting or snapping the trim or body into place; track lights get positioned and rotated along the rail after locking in.
  6. Restore power and test — use the wall switch or dimmer to verify proper operation.

Good to know

  • Professional installation is recommended for trimless or recessed downlights, especially with mudding or insulation involved.
  • Follow local electrical codes and regulations.
  • Use only compatible drivers and dimmers for your fixture.
  • Keep safe spacing from insulation in ceiling cavities to prevent overheating.

On the light

CRI above 90colours finally read true

High colour rendering index means the Mica doesn't flatten or shift what's lit beneath it. Artwork stays vivid, textiles read correctly, food looks as it should. The 30-degree beam concentrates that accuracy in a precise pool rather than washing the room unevenly.

Innovative engineering · intelligent design
Three technical points that make the Mica perform where it counts.
True colour

CRI>90 renders colours accurately — artwork, textiles, and surfaces look as intended.

Long life

80,000-hour integrated LED means the Mica is installed once and forgotten for decades.

Moisture safe

IP52 rating keeps it performing in kitchens and bathrooms without special waterproofing.

Frequently asked

The Mica Downlight is built from die-cast aluminium — a single solid casting that holds the LED driver and optic without flex or rattles, in black or white.

Yes — the Mica is available in matte black and white. Both finishes recede into the ceiling and draw no attention to the fitting itself.

The Mica's CRI>90 means colours in the space — textiles, artwork, surfaces — render as they do in natural light. The 30-degree beam keeps the focus precise rather than washing the room flat.

Greater than 90 — this means the light from the Mica renders colours with high accuracy relative to natural daylight. Standard recessed lights often score 70–80, which noticeably flattens colour.

30 degrees — a focused pool of light that illuminates a specific area (a desk, a countertop, artwork on a wall) without scatter into adjacent surfaces.

Yes — IP52 rated, which means it handles the humidity of kitchens and bathrooms without special waterproofing measures. Not suitable for direct water contact or outdoor exposure.

80,000+ hours — at eight hours of daily use, the Mica's integrated LED will run for over 27 years before needing attention. There are no replaceable bulbs.

90–260VAC — the Mica works on any standard domestic electrical system worldwide, with no converter or transformer required.

The Mica requires a hole cut in the ceiling and a hardwired connection to the mains. A licensed electrician is recommended — it comes with all installation hardware and a driver included.

Yes — living rooms, kitchens, bathrooms (IP52), offices, and retail spaces all suit the Mica. Two sizes and two finishes give flexibility across different ceiling types. Free worldwide shipping — 15–21 business days, 1-year warranty.
