The Object

Brasskept small and quietly precise

The Luque holds to a compact, balanced silhouette, smooth and rounded enough to sit comfortably under the fingers dozens of times a day. Solid brass carries real weight for its size and takes on a natural patina with handling over time. A quiet architectural accent that works across both light and dark cabinetry.
Why you'll love it
  • Solid brass — develops a warm patina with age
  • Compact, balanced silhouette suits drawers and doors
  • Smooth, rounded surface feels substantial in hand
  • Works on kitchens, vanities, wardrobes, and dressers
  • Complements both light and dark wood finishes
Details

No wiring here — just careful measuring, drilling, and mounting. Mortice locks take a bit more patience than a simple knob.

Before you begin

  • Mounting — surface installation on doors, drawers, or cabinetry; check your product's dimensions for placement and drilling points

What you'll need

  • Screwdriver (Phillips and flathead), drill and drill bits, Allen key
  • Tape measure, pencil, level
  • Chisel (for mortice lock installation)
  • Screws and anchors, safety goggles

Step by step

  1. Cabinet hardware — mark drilling points — use a tape measure and pencil; a template helps for uniformity across multiple pieces.
  2. Cabinet hardware — drill holes — use a bit matched to the screw diameter, keeping the drill straight.
  3. Cabinet hardware — mount — insert screws from inside the cabinet or drawer, secure the hardware on the front face, and tighten without overtightening.
  4. Cabinet hardware — align and inspect — confirm straightness and spacing before fully securing.
  5. Thumb lock or dummy handle — confirm orientation — determine left- or right-hand door swing and adjust as needed.
  6. Thumb lock or dummy handle — mark installation height — typically 36–38 inches from the floor to the handle center; align the mounting plate.
  7. Thumb lock or dummy handle — drill and attach — drill pilot holes and secure the backplate and handle with the included screws. Dummy handles install directly, no latch mechanism.
  8. Thumb lock only — install the strike plate — mark the latch location on the door frame, chisel a recess if needed, and screw the strike plate in.
  9. Mortice lock — cut the mortice pocket — use a chisel and drill to create a cavity in the door edge, following the provided measurements.
  10. Mortice lock — insert the lock body — fit it into the cavity and attach through the faceplate with screws.
  11. Mortice lock — install the handle — align the spindle through the lock, attach handles on both sides, and tighten with a screwdriver or Allen key.
  12. Mortice lock — install the cylinder (if applicable) — insert the key cylinder and secure with the cylinder screw from the door edge.
  13. Mortice lock — mount the strike plate — align with the latch mechanism and secure to the door frame.

Good to know

  • Double-check measurements before drilling.
  • Use a level for consistent alignment across multiple units.
  • If you're unfamiliar with mortice installation, consult a locksmith or professional.
  • Make sure all moving parts operate smoothly before final tightening.
  • Dummy handles are decorative or pull-only — they don't engage latches or locks.

On the detail

Small formcarrying real weight

The Luque's compact size doesn't mean light — solid brass gives it a substantial heft that's immediately noticeable in the hand. That weight, paired with the rounded, smooth surface, is what makes such a small piece of hardware feel considered rather than incidental.

Innovative engineering · intelligent design
Three things that set the Luque apart from standard cabinet hardware.
Solid brass

Real weight and a finish that develops character with years of use.

Compact silhouette

A balanced, understated shape that suits both drawers and doors.

Frequently asked

It's made from solid brass, giving it real weight for its compact size and a finish that develops a natural patina with regular handling.

A quiet, architectural silhouette — compact and rounded, designed to add a subtle focal point rather than draw attention on its own.

It works well on kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, wardrobes, and dressers — anywhere a standard cabinet knob would be fitted.

Yes — its smooth, rounded surface is shaped to sit comfortably under the fingers, whether used briefly or dozens of times a day.

Vintage brass and black — both keep the same compact silhouette while shifting the tone to suit a warmer or more contemporary palette.

Yes — its restrained, understated form works comfortably in modern and contemporary kitchens and furniture.

Yes — the same compact, balanced shape reads just as naturally in classic and transitional interiors, especially in the vintage brass finish.

Its proportion — a small, precisely balanced form that relies on the solid brass weight and smooth surface rather than added ornament for its presence.

Both — it's fully functional daily hardware, while its refined shape and finish also add a quiet decorative detail to cabinetry.

It feels notably substantial for its size — solid brass construction gives it real heft rather than the lighter feel of hollow or plated hardware.
