The Object

Ridgedevery detail matched in the lock

The Kapelle is a sculpted brass lever with ridges running along the body — and the round backplate carries the same concentric pattern so the set reads as one coherent piece. The lock cover echoes it again. Three finishes (brass, black, nickel), three lock types (dummy, thumb lock, mortice with keys) — it works on interior doors and brings a considered detail to every one you open.
Why you'll love it
  • Sculpted brass lever — ridged for comfortable grip and visual character
  • Round concentric backplate — pattern matches the lever throughout
  • Matching lock cover — cohesive look across the full door hardware set
  • Three finishes: brass, black, nickel
  • Three lock types: dummy, thumb lock, mortice with keys
Details

No wiring here — just careful measuring, drilling, and mounting. Mortice locks take a bit more patience than a simple knob.

Before you begin

  • Mounting — surface installation on doors, drawers, or cabinetry; check your product's dimensions for placement and drilling points

What you'll need

  • Screwdriver (Phillips and flathead), drill and drill bits, Allen key
  • Tape measure, pencil, level
  • Chisel (for mortice lock installation)
  • Screws and anchors, safety goggles

Step by step

  1. Cabinet hardware — mark drilling points — use a tape measure and pencil; a template helps for uniformity across multiple pieces.
  2. Cabinet hardware — drill holes — use a bit matched to the screw diameter, keeping the drill straight.
  3. Cabinet hardware — mount — insert screws from inside the cabinet or drawer, secure the hardware on the front face, and tighten without overtightening.
  4. Cabinet hardware — align and inspect — confirm straightness and spacing before fully securing.
  5. Thumb lock or dummy handle — confirm orientation — determine left- or right-hand door swing and adjust as needed.
  6. Thumb lock or dummy handle — mark installation height — typically 36–38 inches from the floor to the handle center; align the mounting plate.
  7. Thumb lock or dummy handle — drill and attach — drill pilot holes and secure the backplate and handle with the included screws. Dummy handles install directly, no latch mechanism.
  8. Thumb lock only — install the strike plate — mark the latch location on the door frame, chisel a recess if needed, and screw the strike plate in.
  9. Mortice lock — cut the mortice pocket — use a chisel and drill to create a cavity in the door edge, following the provided measurements.
  10. Mortice lock — insert the lock body — fit it into the cavity and attach through the faceplate with screws.
  11. Mortice lock — install the handle — align the spindle through the lock, attach handles on both sides, and tighten with a screwdriver or Allen key.
  12. Mortice lock — install the cylinder (if applicable) — insert the key cylinder and secure with the cylinder screw from the door edge.
  13. Mortice lock — mount the strike plate — align with the latch mechanism and secure to the door frame.

Good to know

  • Double-check measurements before drilling.
  • Use a level for consistent alignment across multiple units.
  • If you're unfamiliar with mortice installation, consult a locksmith or professional.
  • Make sure all moving parts operate smoothly before final tightening.
  • Dummy handles are decorative or pull-only — they don't engage latches or locks.

The making

Backplate and lock coverthe same pattern

The concentric ring pattern on the backplate is the same detail that runs along the lever body and repeats on the lock cover. It is a small discipline in design — the whole set is coherent, not assembled from unrelated pieces. In brass, black, or nickel, the effect holds across all three finishes.

Coherent set

Lever, backplate, and lock cover carry the same concentric detailing — hardware that reads as designed, not assembled.

Frequently asked

Nava ships worldwide free of charge — delivery typically arrives in 15–21 business days from order confirmation.

The lever and backplate mount to a standard door preparation. Dummy and thumb lock types are straightforward for a competent DIYer; mortice locks are best fitted by a professional joiner or locksmith.

Yes — the lever, backplate, and lock cover are all solid brass. There are no plastic or zinc components that can crack, corrode, or lose their finish over time.

Yes — the sculpted lever sits naturally in the hand. The ridged detailing adds texture without being sharp; the handle shape guides the grip as you use it.

The thumb lock provides privacy (bathroom, bedroom); the mortice lock with keys gives a more secure closure suitable for rooms that need keyed entry.

Yes — the concentric and ridged detailing reads as classic without being ornate. It sits naturally in period, transitional, and restrained contemporary interiors.

Designed for interior doors. The mortice lock type extends its use to any interior door requiring keyed entry. Not rated for exterior use.

Solid brass is among the most durable materials for door hardware — it doesn't rust, resists corrosion, and develops a natural patina with age that many consider an improvement.

No. Wipe occasionally with a dry cloth. If you prefer to maintain the original bright finish, a brass polish applied every year or two is sufficient.

The lever is sculpted rather than stamped — the ridging and concentric detailing require machined precision. Nava includes a 1-year warranty and 14-day returns from delivery.
