The Object

Light through stonea long, quiet line

The Jute hangs a single alabaster shade on a stainless-steel frame — the stone is the diffuser, the steel keeps it taut. Light passes through the alabaster rather than off it, so the output is warm, even, and soft. Two lengths: 100 cm and 120 cm. Over a dining table or a kitchen island, it draws a quiet line of light without asking for attention.
Why you'll love it
  • Alabaster marble shade — light glows through the stone
  • Warm, natural diffusion — no harsh output or hotspot
  • Each shade carries unique natural veining
  • Stainless steel frame — clean and precise
  • Two lengths: 100 cm and 120 cm
Details

A standard hardwired ceiling install — most of it is switching off the power and matching three wires. Set your hanging height before you connect anything, and you're most of the way there.

Before you begin

  • Mounting — to a standard ceiling junction box
  • Power — hardwired to your mains supply
  • Dimming — socketed bulbs dim; integrated-LED models don't
  • Drop — arrives at 47" (1.2 m); want it shorter or longer? Just email us before it ships
  • Ceilings — flat, and most sloped (check the product specs)

What you'll need

  • Screwdriver, voltage tester, wire stripper
  • Wire nuts (included), ladder
  • Drill (only for a new junction box or non-standard ceiling)

Step by step

  1. Turn off the power — switch off the lighting circuit at the breaker, then confirm it's dead with a voltage tester.
  2. Mount the bracket — fasten the included bracket to the junction box, snug and level.
  3. Set your height — before wiring, adjust the cord, chain, or downrod to your drop and lock it at the canopy.
  4. Connect the wires — black to black, white to white, green or bare to ground. Secure each with a wire nut and tuck them into the box.
  5. Attach the fixture — line the canopy up with the bracket and fix it flush with the provided screws or caps.
  6. Add the bulbs — correct type and wattage; if dimming, check the bulbs match your wall dimmer.
  7. Power on and test.

Good to know

  • Follow your local electrical codes.
  • For high or angled ceilings, or anything complex, bring in a licensed electrician.
  • Don't over-tighten decorative parts; dust gently with a soft cloth.

On the stone

Alabasterthe shade and the diffuser in one

Alabaster has been used to diffuse light for thousands of years — it glows rather than reflects. Here the stone is formed into a long, linear shade and suspended from a stainless-steel frame. The integrated LED illuminates from within; the stone does the rest, turning a point source into a warm, even wash along the full length.

Stone diffusion

Light passes through real alabaster — a soft, warm wash rather than a direct beam.

Natural veining

Every alabaster shade carries its own pattern — no two pieces of stone are identical.

Frequently asked

An alabaster marble shade forms the body; stainless steel provides the frame and suspension hardware. The alabaster is cut and shaped; the steel is precisely finished for a clean, consistent look.

Alabaster is translucent — the light passes through the stone rather than bouncing off a reflector. The result is a warm, even wash with natural variation in intensity where the stone's veining is denser.

Hardwired to a standard ceiling junction box — straightforward for a certified electrician. The cord is fixed at 1 m; sloped-ceiling compatibility is available on request when ordering.

Yes — the linear alabaster form suits contemporary, Scandinavian, and transitional interiors. Its natural material and clean steel frame keep it relevant across a wide range of aesthetics.

A warm, organic warmth — not the clinical brightness of a direct LED or the drama of a chandelier. It sits quietly overhead and gives the room a settled, lived-in quality.

Yes — the integrated LED uses far less energy than halogen equivalents at comparable output. The long lifespan also means minimal replacement over the fixture's life.

Yes — both lengths (100 and 120 cm) suit dining tables, kitchen islands, and generous work surfaces. The cord adjusts at installation; sloped ceilings can be accommodated on request.

Alabaster is a hard stone — it resists chipping and holds its translucence well over years of use. The stainless steel frame will not corrode or degrade under normal indoor conditions.

Wipe the alabaster surface with a dry or lightly damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or acidic solutions — they can etch the stone surface. The steel frame only needs an occasional wipe-down.

Keep the alabaster dry and away from prolonged moisture — it is a porous stone. Do not use chemical cleaners directly on the stone surface. Standard indoor care is sufficient.
