Brass in handsmooth, warm, and correct

The Ilulissat arrives as a knob or a pull bar — the same solid brass, the same smooth finish, just different grip geometries. The knob sits at D 2.8–3.2 cm, substantial for its size; the pull bar spans 9.6–16 cm between fixing holes to suit most drawer and cabinet sizes. Brass that feels warm from the first touch and holds its colour across years of daily use.
Why you'll love it
  • Solid brass — warm to the touch, tarnish-resistant
  • Available as a knob or pull bar — three hole spacings
  • Smooth finish sits equally in modern and traditional interiors
  • Three pull bar lengths — suits most standard drawer and cabinet spacing
  • Lightweight yet solid — easy to install, comfortable to use daily
Details

No wiring here — just careful measuring, drilling, and mounting. Mortice locks take a bit more patience than a simple knob.

Before you begin

  • Mounting — surface installation on doors, drawers, or cabinetry; check your product's dimensions for placement and drilling points

What you'll need

  • Screwdriver (Phillips and flathead), drill and drill bits, Allen key
  • Tape measure, pencil, level
  • Chisel (for mortice lock installation)
  • Screws and anchors, safety goggles

Step by step

  1. Cabinet hardware — mark drilling points — use a tape measure and pencil; a template helps for uniformity across multiple pieces.
  2. Cabinet hardware — drill holes — use a bit matched to the screw diameter, keeping the drill straight.
  3. Cabinet hardware — mount — insert screws from inside the cabinet or drawer, secure the hardware on the front face, and tighten without overtightening.
  4. Cabinet hardware — align and inspect — confirm straightness and spacing before fully securing.
  5. Thumb lock or dummy handle — confirm orientation — determine left- or right-hand door swing and adjust as needed.
  6. Thumb lock or dummy handle — mark installation height — typically 36–38 inches from the floor to the handle center; align the mounting plate.
  7. Thumb lock or dummy handle — drill and attach — drill pilot holes and secure the backplate and handle with the included screws. Dummy handles install directly, no latch mechanism.
  8. Thumb lock only — install the strike plate — mark the latch location on the door frame, chisel a recess if needed, and screw the strike plate in.
  9. Mortice lock — cut the mortice pocket — use a chisel and drill to create a cavity in the door edge, following the provided measurements.
  10. Mortice lock — insert the lock body — fit it into the cavity and attach through the faceplate with screws.
  11. Mortice lock — install the handle — align the spindle through the lock, attach handles on both sides, and tighten with a screwdriver or Allen key.
  12. Mortice lock — install the cylinder (if applicable) — insert the key cylinder and secure with the cylinder screw from the door edge.
  13. Mortice lock — mount the strike plate — align with the latch mechanism and secure to the door frame.

Good to know

  • Double-check measurements before drilling.
  • Use a level for consistent alignment across multiple units.
  • If you're unfamiliar with mortice installation, consult a locksmith or professional.
  • Make sure all moving parts operate smoothly before final tightening.
  • Dummy handles are decorative or pull-only — they don't engage latches or locks.

On the metal

Smooth brassa surface that warms in the hand

Brass is an alloy that conducts warmth quickly — it reaches hand temperature in the first touch, which is why it has been used for door and cabinet hardware for centuries. The Ilulissat is finished smooth rather than knurled, which suits cabinetry where a cleaner surface profile is preferred. The knob and pull bar share the same material and finish, so mixing them across different surfaces — door and drawer — reads as intentional.

Frequently asked

Solid brass throughout — body, shank, and surface finish. No base metal underlay, no plating layer to wear through — the brass colour is consistent from surface to core.

Solid brass is among the most durable hardware materials available. It does not rust, holds its form under daily use, and develops a gentle patina rather than degrading. Properly fitted, these handles will outlast most cabinetry.

Brass tarnishes slowly and naturally — developing a slightly warmer tone over years. This patina is a characteristic of solid brass rather than a defect. The smooth finish is easier to maintain than textured surfaces.

Straightforward. Drill a hole through the cabinet face at the correct centre measurement, pass the screw from inside, and tighten onto the knob or pull bar. A standard screwdriver is all that's needed.

Yes — screws and fitting hardware are included. Confirm the cabinet door thickness before ordering to ensure the screw length is appropriate, or contact us if you have an unusually thick door.

Contemporary, Scandinavian, transitional, and traditional interiors. The smooth brass profile is neutral enough to sit in modern kitchens and warm enough to suit antique or painted cabinetry.

Yes. The Ilulissat's smooth, unfussy profile reads differently depending on its context — understated in a contemporary kitchen, classic in a painted dresser. The brass finish adapts to both.

One year standard, extendable to two or three years. Contact us at purchase to add extended coverage. Nava also provides a 14-day return window from delivery.

Wipe with a soft dry or lightly damp cloth. Avoid metal polish unless you want to slow the natural patina. No sealant, lacquer, or periodic treatment is required.

Very. The smooth brass surface warms to hand temperature quickly, and the knob diameter and pull bar grip are sized for a natural, comfortable hold without sharp edges. Nava ships worldwide free in 15–21 business days.
