Rotateslands exactly where you point it

The Hornfels turns a full 350 degrees, so you can direct the beam at a surface, a piece of art, or a work zone — and shift it again whenever the room changes. Built from aluminium and PC at a slim 11.2 x 8.5 cm, it sits flush in the ceiling without drawing attention to itself. Ra90+ colour rendering means colours in the room read true rather than washed out.
Why you'll love it
  • 350-degree rotation — point the beam precisely where needed
  • Ra90+ colour rendering — colours read true beneath it
  • IP43 rated — moisture and heat resistant
  • 80,000-hour integrated LED — built to outlast the renovation
  • Dimmable option · sloped-ceiling compatible · 90–260V
Details

The install depends on your mount type — trimless, recessed, semi-recessed, surface, or track — so confirm which one you have before you start.

Before you begin

  • Mounting — trimless, recessed, semi-recessed, surface-mounted, or track-mounted; confirm the type in your product listing
  • Ceilings — most models suit drywall; some also work with concrete or drop ceilings, check the technical documentation
  • Dimming — many designs dim when paired with compatible drivers and wall dimmers
  • Power — hardwired, connects directly to a ceiling electrical junction
  • Trimless — may need professional finishing or flush-mount drywall work
  • Track — installs onto a compatible rail system; check your product's specification for track type

What you'll need

  • Drill, keyhole or drywall saw (for recessed or trimless)
  • Screwdriver, voltage tester, wire stripper
  • Wire nuts (included with most fixtures), screws and wall anchors (for surface mounting)
  • Level, measuring tape or pencil

Step by step

  1. Turn off the power — at the breaker panel, and confirm with a voltage tester.
  2. Prepare the ceiling opening (recessed and trimless only) — mark your opening with the provided template and cut carefully with a drywall saw or hole cutter. Trimless models need deeper space and extra setup for a seamless finish.
  3. Install the mounting hardware or fixture housing — recessed and trimless designs insert into the ceiling cavity and secure with spring clips or fasteners (trimless may need joist framing); semi-recessed fixtures partially install per the included instructions; surface-mounted downlights attach directly with screws and wall anchors; track fixtures need a compatible track system first, then lock into place.
  4. Connect the wiring — black to black, white to white, green or bare to ground. Secure each with a wire nut and tuck neatly back into the housing or box.
  5. Final assembly — trimless fixtures get mudded and feathered into the ceiling plane before painting; recessed, semi-recessed, and surface fixtures finish by twisting or snapping the trim or body into place; track lights get positioned and rotated along the rail after locking in.
  6. Restore power and test — use the wall switch or dimmer to verify proper operation.

Good to know

  • Professional installation is recommended for trimless or recessed downlights, especially with mudding or insulation involved.
  • Follow local electrical codes and regulations.
  • Use only compatible drivers and dimmers for your fixture.
  • Keep safe spacing from insulation in ceiling cavities to prevent overheating.

How it works

A full rotationlight follows the room

Most downlights are fixed from the moment they're installed. The Hornfels rotates 350 degrees, so the direction of its beam can be set — and reset — without touching the wiring. Pair that with Ra90+ colour accuracy and 80,000-hour LEDs, and it's a fixture that works hard without showing it.

Frequently asked

Aluminium body with a PC diffuser — lightweight and resistant to the heat generated by the LED. Available in black or white to blend with ceiling finishes.

The head rotates freely within the housing, letting you redirect the beam after installation — toward artwork, a counter, or a reading zone — without any tools or rewiring.

Yes — rated IP43, which provides protection against moisture and heat ingress. Suitable for kitchens, bathrooms, and other humid indoor spaces.

IP43 — dust protection and resistance to water spray at angles up to 60 degrees from vertical. Suitable for indoor spaces where moisture is present.

Very — integrated LED technology draws 20–25W while delivering 2200–2750 lm, significantly more efficient than incandescent or halogen equivalents at similar output.

The integrated LED is rated at 80,000+ hours — around 27 years at 8 hours per day. No bulb replacements needed over the life of the fixture.

90–260V — compatible with all standard residential and commercial electrical systems worldwide without needing a converter.

Cut a recess in the ceiling, connect to the mains, and secure. Sloped-ceiling compatible. Professional installation by a certified electrician is recommended.

Yes — black and white. Both share the same aluminium construction and LED specification; the choice is purely about blending with or accenting the ceiling.

The LED's spectral profile is tuned to cover a wide colour range. Ra90+ means colours in the room appear as they would under natural light — important for kitchens, art walls, and retail displays.
