Installation Guide

No wiring here — just careful measuring, drilling, and mounting. Mortice locks take a bit more patience than a simple knob.

Before you begin

  • Mounting — surface installation on doors, drawers, or cabinetry; check your product's dimensions for placement and drilling points

What you'll need

  • Screwdriver (Phillips and flathead), drill and drill bits, Allen key
  • Tape measure, pencil, level
  • Chisel (for mortice lock installation)
  • Screws and anchors, safety goggles

Step by step

  1. Cabinet hardware — mark drilling points — use a tape measure and pencil; a template helps for uniformity across multiple pieces.
  2. Cabinet hardware — drill holes — use a bit matched to the screw diameter, keeping the drill straight.
  3. Cabinet hardware — mount — insert screws from inside the cabinet or drawer, secure the hardware on the front face, and tighten without overtightening.
  4. Cabinet hardware — align and inspect — confirm straightness and spacing before fully securing.
  5. Thumb lock or dummy handle — confirm orientation — determine left- or right-hand door swing and adjust as needed.
  6. Thumb lock or dummy handle — mark installation height — typically 36–38 inches from the floor to the handle center; align the mounting plate.
  7. Thumb lock or dummy handle — drill and attach — drill pilot holes and secure the backplate and handle with the included screws. Dummy handles install directly, no latch mechanism.
  8. Thumb lock only — install the strike plate — mark the latch location on the door frame, chisel a recess if needed, and screw the strike plate in.
  9. Mortice lock — cut the mortice pocket — use a chisel and drill to create a cavity in the door edge, following the provided measurements.
  10. Mortice lock — insert the lock body — fit it into the cavity and attach through the faceplate with screws.
  11. Mortice lock — install the handle — align the spindle through the lock, attach handles on both sides, and tighten with a screwdriver or Allen key.
  12. Mortice lock — install the cylinder (if applicable) — insert the key cylinder and secure with the cylinder screw from the door edge.
  13. Mortice lock — mount the strike plate — align with the latch mechanism and secure to the door frame.

Good to know

  • Double-check measurements before drilling.
  • Use a level for consistent alignment across multiple units.
  • If you're unfamiliar with mortice installation, consult a locksmith or professional.
  • Make sure all moving parts operate smoothly before final tightening.
  • Dummy handles are decorative or pull-only — they don't engage latches or locks.

Knurled brass — grip that doubles as detail

Linear knurling is a machining pattern — a series of parallel ridges cut into the surface. On the Hellur, it runs the length of the grip section, giving fingers purchase without looking deliberate. The antique bronze finish is applied to the brass to deepen the tone and slow any further patination.

Innovative engineering. Intelligent design.

Solid brass

No plating over a weaker base — solid brass throughout, rust-resistant and built for daily use.

Knurled grip

The linear knurling functions as both grip texture and surface detail — practical and refined.

Frequently Asked Questions

What materials are these made from?

Solid brass throughout — not brass-plated over a base metal. This means the finish is durable, the piece is heavier in the hand, and there's no underlying material to corrode or bleed through over time.

Is the antique bronze finish prone to fading?

The antique bronze is a brushed finish applied to the solid brass. It's durable under normal use — regular handling won't strip it. Over years, brass naturally develops a patina, which deepens the antique tone rather than degrading it.

How durable and rust-resistant are these fixtures?

Solid brass is inherently rust-resistant — it doesn't corrode like iron or steel. The Hellur is suitable for kitchens, bathrooms, and wardrobes where moisture is a regular factor.

Are these suitable for high-traffic areas like kitchens?

Yes — solid brass handles daily opening and closing without degrading. The knurled grip also stays comfortable and secure over years of use. Clean with a dry or slightly damp cloth to maintain the finish.

How does the linear knurling enhance grip?

The parallel ridges give fingers consistent traction — especially useful with wet or oily hands in kitchens. It's a functional pattern derived from machining practice, not applied as surface decoration.

Are any special tools required for installation?

No specialist tools — a standard drill and screwdriver are sufficient. Measure hole spacing carefully before drilling; the hole-to-hole dimensions for each pull bar are listed in the specs above.

Can these be installed by a DIY enthusiast?

Yes — installation is straightforward for anyone comfortable with a drill. Mark the hole positions, drill to the correct depth, insert the bolt from inside the drawer or door, and secure from the front. Instructions are included.

Are these fixtures compatible with both modern and historical home styles?

Yes — the antique bronze and knurled finish works in traditional, transitional, and contemporary interiors. It reads as heritage hardware without being ornate.

How easy is it to clean and maintain these fixtures?

Wipe with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners, which can scratch the finish. For a deeper clean, a soft cloth with mild soap works — dry immediately after to prevent water marks.

Do these come with a warranty?

Yes — a 1-year warranty is included, extendable to 2, 3, or 5 years on request. A 14-day return window applies if the size or finish isn't right for your cabinetry. Free worldwide shipping on all orders.
