Recessed flushlight where your foot falls

The Gypsum Stair Light sits flush in the wall of a staircase, a small square of acrylic and plastic that barely registers when unlit. When someone passes, the motion sensor wakes it — soft ambient light spills across the tread, then turns off once the space is clear again. At 2W per unit, a full staircase runs on almost nothing. LEDs rated to 50,000 hours. Available in black, white, silver, or gold.
Why you'll love it
  • Motion-triggered — activates as you approach, off when you leave
  • Recessed installation sits flush with the stair wall
  • 50,000-hour integrated LED — built to outlast the staircase
  • 2W per unit — a full staircase uses minimal energy
  • Four finishes: black, white, silver, gold
Details

The install depends on your mount type — trimless, recessed, semi-recessed, surface, or track — so confirm which one you have before you start.

Before you begin

  • Mounting — trimless, recessed, semi-recessed, surface-mounted, or track-mounted; confirm the type in your product listing
  • Ceilings — most models suit drywall; some also work with concrete or drop ceilings, check the technical documentation
  • Dimming — many designs dim when paired with compatible drivers and wall dimmers
  • Power — hardwired, connects directly to a ceiling electrical junction
  • Trimless — may need professional finishing or flush-mount drywall work
  • Track — installs onto a compatible rail system; check your product's specification for track type

What you'll need

  • Drill, keyhole or drywall saw (for recessed or trimless)
  • Screwdriver, voltage tester, wire stripper
  • Wire nuts (included with most fixtures), screws and wall anchors (for surface mounting)
  • Level, measuring tape or pencil

Step by step

  1. Turn off the power — at the breaker panel, and confirm with a voltage tester.
  2. Prepare the ceiling opening (recessed and trimless only) — mark your opening with the provided template and cut carefully with a drywall saw or hole cutter. Trimless models need deeper space and extra setup for a seamless finish.
  3. Install the mounting hardware or fixture housing — recessed and trimless designs insert into the ceiling cavity and secure with spring clips or fasteners (trimless may need joist framing); semi-recessed fixtures partially install per the included instructions; surface-mounted downlights attach directly with screws and wall anchors; track fixtures need a compatible track system first, then lock into place.
  4. Connect the wiring — black to black, white to white, green or bare to ground. Secure each with a wire nut and tuck neatly back into the housing or box.
  5. Final assembly — trimless fixtures get mudded and feathered into the ceiling plane before painting; recessed, semi-recessed, and surface fixtures finish by twisting or snapping the trim or body into place; track lights get positioned and rotated along the rail after locking in.
  6. Restore power and test — use the wall switch or dimmer to verify proper operation.

Good to know

  • Professional installation is recommended for trimless or recessed downlights, especially with mudding or insulation involved.
  • Follow local electrical codes and regulations.
  • Use only compatible drivers and dimmers for your fixture.
  • Keep safe spacing from insulation in ceiling cavities to prevent overheating.

How it works

Sensor wakes itstep near, light appears

The Gypsum's motion sensor reads movement within the induction zone and activates instantly — no switch, no fumbling in the dark. When the staircase is clear, it shuts off on its own. The sensing range and auto-off timing are calibrated for stair use, not a room-wide sweep.

Innovative engineering · intelligent design
Three things worth knowing before you install the Gypsum.
Motion sensing

Activates on approach, turns off automatically when the area clears.

Flush-recessed

Sits inside the stair wall — visible as a soft glow, invisible as a fixture.

Long life

50,000-hour integrated LED — install once and forget about replacement.

Frequently asked

The Gypsum is recessed into the stair wall — mark the cutout, cut to the fixture's depth, mount it securely, and wire to mains. We recommend a certified electrician for the wiring step.

Designed primarily for indoor staircases, hallways, and corridors. Check with us if you have an outdoor stair application — some finishes suit covered external areas.

A passive infrared sensor detects movement within the induction zone directly in front of the fixture. It activates the LED instantly when someone enters the zone and turns it off after they leave.

The body is PC plastic with an acrylic diffuser — lightweight but built for the confined, high-traffic environment of a staircase. The integrated LED has a 50,000-hour rated life.

At 2W per unit, the Gypsum uses very little energy — and the motion sensor means it's only on when someone is actually there. A 10-step staircase fully fitted draws 20W total.

Yes — the auto-off function kicks in once movement clears the sensor zone. No manual switch needed, and no light left burning in an empty stairwell.

Staircases are the primary application, but the Gypsum also works well in hallways, corridors, and low-light passageways anywhere you want ambient step lighting.

The integrated LED is rated to 50,000 hours. At typical stair-light usage — a few hours per day — that's well over a decade of reliable performance.

Completely automatic — no switches or remotes. Once installed and wired, it operates itself via the motion sensor. Nothing to remember, nothing to adjust.

Recessed and flush, the Gypsum disappears into the stair wall when unlit. The four finish options — black, white, silver, gold — let it match the surrounding trim or accent it deliberately.
