Installation Guide

A standard hardwired ceiling install — most of it is switching off the power and matching three wires. Set your hanging height before you connect anything, and you're most of the way there.

Before you begin

  • Mounting — to a standard ceiling junction box
  • Power — hardwired to your mains supply
  • Dimming — socketed bulbs dim; integrated-LED models don't
  • Drop — arrives at 47" (1.2 m); want it shorter or longer? Just email us before it ships
  • Ceilings — flat, and most sloped (check the product specs)

What you'll need

  • Screwdriver, voltage tester, wire stripper
  • Wire nuts (included), ladder
  • Drill (only for a new junction box or non-standard ceiling)

Step by step

  1. Turn off the power — switch off the lighting circuit at the breaker, then confirm it's dead with a voltage tester.
  2. Mount the bracket — fasten the included bracket to the junction box, snug and level.
  3. Set your height — before wiring, adjust the cord, chain, or downrod to your drop and lock it at the canopy.
  4. Connect the wires — black to black, white to white, green or bare to ground. Secure each with a wire nut and tuck them into the box.
  5. Attach the fixture — line the canopy up with the bracket and fix it flush with the provided screws or caps.
  6. Add the bulbs — correct type and wattage; if dimming, check the bulbs match your wall dimmer.
  7. Power on and test.

  • Follow your local electrical codes.
  • For high or angled ceilings, or anything complex, bring in a licensed electrician.
  • Don't over-tighten decorative parts; dust gently with a soft cloth.

Gas and minerals — the glow is different here

The Gargoyle's glass tube contains a blend of gas and rare minerals that emits light with a warmth and depth standard LEDs don't replicate. It reads old-school in the best sense — the warmth of a neon bar without the commercial associations. How easy is the installation process?

It hangs from a standard ceiling junction box on the adjustable chain. Included hardware covers the canopy and fixings. A certified electrician is recommended for the hardwired mains connection.

What materials are used in the fixture?

A glass tube containing a gas-and-mineral light blend, set in a metal frame with a brass finish. The paint is non-toxic and temperature-resistant — it won't yellow or crack with heat from the tube.

Is the light temperature adjustable?

No — the Gargoyle emits a fixed warm tone from the gas-blend glass tube. The warmth is characteristic of the material and cannot be changed post-installation.

How durable is the paint?

The finish is temperature-resistant and fade-resistant, formulated to hold its tone under the warmth generated by the glass tube. Normal indoor exposure won't cause discolouration or peeling.

Is the fixture energy-efficient?

Yes — despite the gas-blend glass producing a warm, distinctive glow, the underlying light source is LED-based with 50,000-hour rated life. Running costs are lower than comparable traditional neon or fluorescent equivalents.

What is the lifespan of the LEDs?

50,000 hours — at 8 hours a day, over 17 years. The integrated source is not user-replaceable; at this lifespan, practical replacement is not a concern within a normal ownership period.

Can it be mounted on any surface?

Standard flat ceilings are supported with the included hardware. Sloped-ceiling compatibility is available on request — contact us before ordering to confirm the bracket options for your ceiling pitch.

Is the light suitable for various room types?

Yes — the Gargoyle suits dining rooms, kitchens, living rooms, and open commercial spaces like cafés or studios. The linear form works best over a table or counter of similar length.
