The Object

Brassthe switch that tells you it's on

The Fosnavaag Switch is cut from solid brass and installed in under five minutes on any US standard single-gang box. The weight is real — 1.5 to 4 lbs — and so is the click. A tactile, audible confirmation every time you flip it. UL listed, handcrafted, and built to outlast the house it's installed in.
Why you'll love it
  • 100% solid brass — no plastic, no filler, no coating over cheaper metal
  • Tactile click with every flip — the feedback you expect from quality hardware
  • Fits any US standard 1-gang electrical box — installs in under 5 minutes
  • UL listed for US and Canada — certified for residential and commercial use
  • Handcrafted finish — made by hand, not stamped from a mould
Details

Includes the solid-brass plate, toggle mechanism, and mounting hardware. A straightforward swap for an existing switch — power off, match the wires, screw the plate back on.

Step by step

  1. Turn off the power at your breaker or fuse box.
  2. Remove the old cover plate — unscrew it and set it aside.
  3. Take out the old switch — unscrew it from the box and ease it out to reach the wiring.
  4. Disconnect the wires — loosen the screws, or if back-inserted, cut and strip the ends.
  5. Wire the new toggle — live to the brass/black screw, neutral to silver (if your switch uses one), ground to the green screw. Tighten each.
  6. Secure the switch — tuck the wires back, align the toggle, fasten with the included screws.
  7. Fit the brass plate over the switch and screw it in.
  8. Power back on at the panel.
  9. Test — toggle up and down; the light or device should switch cleanly.

On the metal

Solid brassthe weight you feel in the flip

The switch body is machined from a single piece of brass — not plated, not laminated, not simulated. The weight comes from the material itself. Over years of use, solid brass develops a natural patina that enriches rather than degrades the finish — this is hardware that improves with age, not hardware that ages out.

Innovative engineering · intelligent design
Three things that separate it from every switch in the hardware store.
Solid brass

Machined from real brass — no plastic parts, no coating over a cheaper substrate.

Audible click

A crisp, tactile click confirms every switch — the kind of feedback quality hardware delivers.

Frequently asked

Yes — it replaces or installs on any US standard 1-gang electrical box in under 5 minutes. No rewiring, no special tools beyond a screwdriver. Turn off the circuit, swap the plate, and you're done.

100% solid brass throughout — no plastic components, no coating over a cheaper metal. The weight and feel come entirely from the brass itself, not from added mass or filler.

The flip is firm and the click is audible — a crisp, tactile confirmation with every use. The weight of the solid brass gives the mechanism a satisfying resistance that cheap switches don't replicate.

Yes — UL listed for both the US and Canada. Safe for residential and commercial installation across both markets.

Solid brass doesn't chip, peel, or flake — because there's no coating to fail. Over time it develops a natural patina that deepens the tone. If you prefer the original brightness, a light polish restores it.

Yes — designed specifically for US standard 1-gang electrical boxes. If you're unsure whether your box qualifies, check the gang count and box depth against a standard switch plate.

Solid brass construction, UL certification, and a handcrafted finish — most switches on the market are plastic with a thin metal or paint overlay. This one is the actual material all the way through.

Yes — solid brass is one of the most durable materials used in architectural hardware. It handles thousands of daily uses without wear, and the patina from regular contact only improves it.

Brass switchplates were standard in pre-war and mid-century homes. Restoring one with the Fosnavaag Switch brings the material language back without sacrificing modern electrical ratings — it reads period-correct without being a replica.

Yes — Nava Decor includes a 1-year warranty on the Fosnavaag Switch as standard, covering manufacturing defects. Extended coverage to 2 or 3 years is available on request.
