The Object

Weighted aboveconcrete at the end of a cord

The Darss is a smooth concrete cylinder suspended on black cords — the material brings density and quiet to a room where most pendants bring shine. It casts light downward and focused, letting the texture of the ceiling and table do the rest. Three finishes (black, white, grey), replaceable GU10 LED, dimmable on request — paired or single, it reads as intentional.
Why you'll love it
  • Smooth cast concrete — tactile weight above the table
  • Focused downward beam — no glare into the room
  • Three finishes: black, white, or grey concrete
  • Replaceable GU10 LED — easy to service, included
  • Adjustable cord to 1.2 m · sloped-ceiling compatible
Details

A standard hardwired ceiling install — most of it is switching off the power and matching three wires. Set your hanging height before you connect anything, and you're most of the way there.

Before you begin

  • Mounting — to a standard ceiling junction box
  • Power — hardwired to your mains supply
  • Dimming — socketed bulbs dim; integrated-LED models don't
  • Drop — arrives at 47" (1.2 m); want it shorter or longer? Just email us before it ships
  • Ceilings — flat, and most sloped (check the product specs)

What you'll need

  • Screwdriver, voltage tester, wire stripper
  • Wire nuts (included), ladder
  • Drill (only for a new junction box or non-standard ceiling)

Step by step

  1. Turn off the power — switch off the lighting circuit at the breaker, then confirm it's dead with a voltage tester.
  2. Mount the bracket — fasten the included bracket to the junction box, snug and level.
  3. Set your height — before wiring, adjust the cord, chain, or downrod to your drop and lock it at the canopy.
  4. Connect the wires — black to black, white to white, green or bare to ground. Secure each with a wire nut and tuck them into the box.
  5. Attach the fixture — line the canopy up with the bracket and fix it flush with the provided screws or caps.
  6. Add the bulbs — correct type and wattage; if dimming, check the bulbs match your wall dimmer.
  7. Power on and test.

Good to know

  • Follow your local electrical codes.
  • For high or angled ceilings, or anything complex, bring in a licensed electrician.
  • Don't over-tighten decorative parts; dust gently with a soft cloth.

The making

Cast in concretedense, mineral, considered

The Darss body is cast from concrete, then finished smooth — a material more often found underfoot than overhead. Close up, the surface carries the texture of the mould: fine, mineral, slightly warm. Light passes through the open base only, so the downward beam stays clean and focused, the concrete stays dark above it.

Concrete form

Cast and finished smooth — a material that adds real density and industrial calm to a space.

Focused beam

Open base directs light cleanly downward — table-top bright, ceiling-level dark.

Frequently asked

It runs on 90–260V, so it works on any standard residential or commercial electrical supply worldwide — no step-down transformer needed.

The body is cast concrete with a metal fitting — the concrete is finished smooth and comes in black, white, or grey. The metal components are powder-coated for durability.

The cord adjusts to a maximum of 1.2 m (4.1 ft). You set the drop at installation to position the pendant at the right height above your surface.

No — it uses a replaceable GU10 LED bulb, which is included. GU10 bulbs are widely available, so replacement is easy when the time comes (typically 25,000–50,000 hours of use).

Yes — the cord adjusts at the canopy. For dining tables, 70–80 cm above the table surface is a common starting point; adjust to suit your ceiling height and room scale.

No — it's designed for indoor installation only. Concrete is porous and the fixture is not weather-sealed. It works well in dry spaces: dining rooms, kitchens, studios, and offices.

Focused, downward-directed light — the open base channels the beam straight down onto the surface below, ideal for task lighting over a dining table, island, or workspace.

No — the fixture is not rated for wet or damp locations. Install it in dry indoor spaces only; avoid areas with direct water exposure or high humidity.

Yes, on request — let us know at checkout and we'll configure it for dimmer compatibility. Pair with a compatible wall dimmer for full control over the mood in the room.

Wipe the concrete surface with a dry or barely-damp cloth — no abrasives or liquid cleaners on the concrete. The metal canopy can be wiped with a damp cloth. Turn the fixture off and let it cool before cleaning.
