Set into the ceilingsquare and deliberate

The Corymb Downlight is a cube-form recessed fitting in aluminium — the shape alone marks it as a considered choice over a round downlight. Adjustable colour temperature lets you set warm, neutral, or cool white; the 180-degree beam covers the area thoroughly. Integrated LED rated to 50,000 hours, in packs of 4 or 9, black or white.
Why you'll love it
  • Cubic form — a deliberate alternative to standard round downlights
  • Adjustable colour temperature: warm, neutral, or cool white
  • 180-degree beam — comprehensive coverage, no dark corners
  • 50,000-hour integrated LED — nothing to replace for years
  • Packs of 4 or 9 · black or white · sloped-ceiling compatible
Details

The install depends on your mount type — trimless, recessed, semi-recessed, surface, or track — so confirm which one you have before you start.

Before you begin

  • Mounting — trimless, recessed, semi-recessed, surface-mounted, or track-mounted; confirm the type in your product listing
  • Ceilings — most models suit drywall; some also work with concrete or drop ceilings, check the technical documentation
  • Dimming — many designs dim when paired with compatible drivers and wall dimmers
  • Power — hardwired, connects directly to a ceiling electrical junction
  • Trimless — may need professional finishing or flush-mount drywall work
  • Track — installs onto a compatible rail system; check your product's specification for track type

What you'll need

  • Drill, keyhole or drywall saw (for recessed or trimless)
  • Screwdriver, voltage tester, wire stripper
  • Wire nuts (included with most fixtures), screws and wall anchors (for surface mounting)
  • Level, measuring tape or pencil

Step by step

  1. Turn off the power — at the breaker panel, and confirm with a voltage tester.
  2. Prepare the ceiling opening (recessed and trimless only) — mark your opening with the provided template and cut carefully with a drywall saw or hole cutter. Trimless models need deeper space and extra setup for a seamless finish.
  3. Install the mounting hardware or fixture housing — recessed and trimless designs insert into the ceiling cavity and secure with spring clips or fasteners (trimless may need joist framing); semi-recessed fixtures partially install per the included instructions; surface-mounted downlights attach directly with screws and wall anchors; track fixtures need a compatible track system first, then lock into place.
  4. Connect the wiring — black to black, white to white, green or bare to ground. Secure each with a wire nut and tuck neatly back into the housing or box.
  5. Final assembly — trimless fixtures get mudded and feathered into the ceiling plane before painting; recessed, semi-recessed, and surface fixtures finish by twisting or snapping the trim or body into place; track lights get positioned and rotated along the rail after locking in.
  6. Restore power and test — use the wall switch or dimmer to verify proper operation.

Good to know

  • Professional installation is recommended for trimless or recessed downlights, especially with mudding or insulation involved.
  • Follow local electrical codes and regulations.
  • Use only compatible drivers and dimmers for your fixture.
  • Keep safe spacing from insulation in ceiling cavities to prevent overheating.

The shape

Square in the ceilingnot round by default

Most downlights are round by convention. The Corymb is square — a small but visible decision that changes how the ceiling reads in a finished room. The aluminium body is the same cube above and below the ceiling line, so the visible face is clean and intentional. Available in 8.6 cm and 12.5 cm face sizes.

Frequently asked

The square form and clean aluminium finish read as contemporary. It can work in older buildings as a deliberate modern contrast, but it isn't designed to mimic period styles.

Solid aluminium throughout. It's lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and holds dimensional precision well — qualities that matter in a recessed fitting installed flush with the ceiling.

The integrated LED is rated for 50,000+ hours. At six hours of daily use that's over 22 years of operation before replacement becomes a practical consideration.

Yes — warm white, natural white, and cool white are all available. Set the colour temperature at installation to match the room's purpose and the other light sources in the space.

180 degrees — a wide, comprehensive distribution that covers an area evenly without requiring the fixture to be angled or tilted.

Output ranges from 880 lm (8W) for the smaller 4-light version up to 2970 lm (27W) for the larger 9-light. Choose the wattage that suits your ceiling height and room area.

Recessed installation involves cutting holes in the ceiling and connecting to the mains. It's straightforward for a qualified electrician — all wiring hardware is included.

Black and white — both in the same aluminium construction. Black reads as graphic in white ceilings; white disappears cleanly into lighter surfaces.

Yes. At 8–27W per unit depending on configuration, the integrated LED draws far less than equivalent halogen or incandescent downlights for the same lumen output.

No. With a 50,000-hour LED and aluminium construction, the Corymb is essentially maintenance-free. Occasional dusting of the visible face is all that's needed.
