Product Specifications

Type — GFCI Wall Outlet

Buttons — Test / Reset

Application — Indoor wet areas (bathroom, kitchen, laundry, outdoor)

Note — Confirm local voltage and wiring standards before ordering

Installation Guide

A standard outlet swap — power off, match the wires, new brass outlet in. GFCI and USB-C models just have a couple of extra terminals to watch for.

What's included

Brass plate, your selected outlet type (Standard, USB-C, or GFCI), and mounting accessories.

What you'll need

  • Screwdriver, wire stripper

Step by step

  1. Turn off the power — at your circuit breaker or fuse box.
  2. Remove the old cover plate — unscrew it and set it aside.
  3. Take out the old outlet — unscrew it from the electrical box and gently pull it out.
  4. Disconnect the wires — loosen the screws, or if back-inserted, cut and strip the ends.
  5. Connect the wires to the new outlet — wrap around screws or insert into terminals, following the Line, Neutral, and Ground markings (especially for GFCI and USB-C outlets).
  6. Secure the new outlet — tuck the wires back into the electrical box and fasten with the provided screws.
  7. Attach the new cover plate — place the brass plate over the outlet and screw it in.
  8. Turn the power back on — at the circuit breaker or fuse box.
  9. Test it — plug in a device to confirm power. For USB-C, test with a compatible charger. For GFCI, press the Test and Reset buttons to confirm it's working.

Ground fault — detected and cut in milliseconds

A GFCI monitors the current difference between live and neutral continuously. If the imbalance reaches 5 mA — meaning current is taking an unintended path, potentially through a person — it trips and cuts power. The Collonges performs this function automatically; the Test button simulates a fault to confirm the circuit is active.

Innovative engineering. Intelligent design.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is The GFCI Outlet?

The Collonges is a ground-fault circuit interrupter outlet — a safety device that monitors electrical current and cuts power within milliseconds if a fault is detected, reducing the risk of shock in wet-area applications.

What does GFCI stand for?

Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter. The device monitors the difference between current flowing out through the live conductor and returning through the neutral — any imbalance indicates a fault.

How is a GFCI outlet different from a standard outlet?

A standard outlet delivers power without monitoring it. A GFCI outlet continuously checks for current leakage — if it detects even 5 mA of imbalance, it trips and cuts power before a shock can occur.

Where is a GFCI outlet typically used?

Bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms, garages, outdoor areas, and any location where water and electrical outlets are in proximity. Most residential electrical codes require GFCI protection in these zones.

Does a GFCI outlet help protect against electric shock?

Yes — the ground-fault interrupter trips within milliseconds of detecting a current imbalance, cutting power before a fault can escalate. It does not replace proper wiring, but it adds a critical layer of protection in wet-area applications.

What do the Test and Reset buttons do?

Test simulates a ground fault — pressing it should immediately cut power to the outlet, confirming the GFCI circuit is active. Reset restores power after a trip, whether real or simulated.

Does this outlet need to be tested from time to time?

Yes — it is good practice to test GFCI outlets monthly. Press Test to confirm the circuit trips, then press Reset to restore power. If the outlet does not trip on Test, it should be replaced.

Is The Collonges Outlet suitable for bathrooms and kitchens?

Yes — GFCI protection is specifically designed for and required in bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms, and other wet-area locations. The Collonges meets this application requirement.

Should a GFCI outlet be installed by an electrician?

Yes — while GFCI outlets can be self-installed by confident DIYers, professional installation by a licensed electrician ensures correct wiring, proper earthing, and code compliance for your jurisdiction.

What should I confirm before ordering The Collonges Outlet?

Confirm your local voltage (110V or 220V), wiring configuration, and whether the outlet's faceplate format matches your wall plates. If unsure, consult a licensed electrician before purchasing.
