The Object

Cast in brassbuilt to outlast the room

The Cesny is a flush-mount ceiling lamp made from solid marine-grade brass, shaped after the lanterns that lit ships through salt air and rough crossings. It sits close to the ceiling, directing a warm 80° beam downward through a glass diffuser — enough to fill a hallway or entryway without spilling past the walls. The brass develops a subtle patina over years, gaining presence rather than losing it. Two sizes, satin or vintage-brass finish, integrated LED, fully dimmable.
Why you'll love it
  • Solid marine-grade brass — builds patina rather than wearing out
  • Inspired by 19th-century ship lanterns — genuine archival form
  • Integrated LED, dimmable, 80° beam angle
  • Glass diffuser for soft, comfortable overhead light
  • Two sizes, satin and vintage-brass finishes
Details

A close-to-ceiling install for low-clearance rooms — power off, mount the bracket, match the wires, done.

Before you begin

  • Mounting — direct to a standard ceiling junction box; sits close against the ceiling
  • Dimming — most socketed models dim; integrated-LED models don't
  • Ceilings — flat ceilings only; for vaulted or sloped ceilings, look at semi-flush or pendant options instead
  • Power — hardwired to your home's electrical system

What you'll need

  • Screwdriver, voltage tester, wire stripper
  • Wire nuts (included), ladder
  • Drill (only for a new junction box or non-standard ceiling)

Step by step

  1. Turn off the power — shut it off at the breaker panel and confirm with a voltage tester.
  2. Remove the fixture cover — twist or unclip the outer shade or base cover to expose the mounting plate and wiring.
  3. Install the mounting bracket — attach it to the ceiling junction box with the supplied screws, secure and level.
  4. Connect the wires — black to black, white to white, green or bare to ground. Secure each with a wire nut and tuck them into the junction box.
  5. Attach the fixture base — lift into place, align with the bracket, and secure with the provided screws so it sits flush against the ceiling.
  6. Reattach the cover — twist, clip, or fasten the decorative cover or diffuser back on.
  7. Restore power and test.

Good to know

  • Great for standard or low ceilings — hallways, bedrooms, closets.
  • Confirm your junction box can support the fixture's weight.
  • Follow local electrical codes.
  • When in doubt, bring in a licensed electrician.

The making

Brass formed onceto last indefinitely

Marine-grade brass was chosen for ship fixtures because it survives salt air, heat, and constant handling. That same material logic applies here: a solid casting that doesn't flex, corrode, or fade. The satin and vintage-brass finishes are applied by hand and sealed for interior use, where the brass can develop quietly over years.

Marine brass

Solid marine-grade brass — the same choice as 19th-century ship lanterns, for the same reasons.

Grows richer

The brass develops a subtle patina with time — more distinctive, not more worn.

Frequently asked

The body is solid marine-grade brass — the same material used in 19th-century nautical fixtures for its resistance to corrosion and its ability to develop a rich patina over time. The diffuser is glass.

The design is drawn from historical ship lanterns — not a stylistic reference but a faithful adaptation of proportions and material logic. The compact form and solid-brass construction make it functional and genuinely characterful.

No — the LED is integrated into the fixture and included. There's nothing to source or install separately; the lamp is ready to wire from the box.

Yes — it's compatible with ELV dimmers. A dimmer switch is required but not included; any standard ELV-compatible dimmer sold at a hardware store will work.

The 12W version produces 1100lm and the 15W version also produces 1100lm at a wider spread. Combined with ELV dimming, both can be adjusted from full brightness down to a very low warm level.

Yes — satin brass for a cleaner, more contemporary look, and vintage brass for a warmer, slightly antiqued tone. Both develop a subtle patina with age.

The 12W version is D11.4cm x H3.8cm, weighing 0.54kg. The 15W version is D15.9cm x H4.4cm, weighing 1.04kg. Both sit very close to the ceiling surface.

It mounts to a standard ceiling junction box via the included brass hardware. Hardwired to mains — we recommend a certified electrician for the electrical connection.

Yes — it carries UL, CE, ROHS, and a full range of international safety certifications, making it suitable for residential use across most markets.

Hallways, entryways, kitchens, bedrooms, and bathrooms (check local code for wet-area requirements) all work well. The compact size and directional beam suit any room where a flush ceiling light fits better than a pendant.
