The Object

Clicked into the wallbrass that earns its place

The Carennac is cut entirely from solid brass — no chrome plating over zinc, no painted finish over pot metal. It weighs between 1.5 and 4 lbs and clicks with a deliberate, mechanical precision that lighter switches don't have. UL certified, fits standard US electrical boxes, and can be swapped into an existing switch position in under five minutes.
Why you'll love it
  • 100% solid brass body — 1.5 to 4 lbs, no hollow or plated construction
  • Deliberate mechanical click — tactile feedback with every use
  • Fits standard US electrical boxes — no additional hardware needed
  • UL certified for safety and long-term reliability
  • Replaces any existing switch in under five minutes
Details

A straightforward swap — power off, match the wires, new dimmer in.

What's included

Brass plate, diamond-cut dimmer knob, and mounting accessories.

What you'll need

  • Screwdriver, wire stripper

Step by step

  1. Turn off the power — at your circuit breaker or fuse box.
  2. Remove the old cover plate — unscrew it and set it aside.
  3. Take out the old switch — unscrew it from the electrical box and pull it out.
  4. Disconnect the wires — loosen the screws, or if back-inserted, cut and strip the ends.
  5. Connect the wires to the new switch — wrap around the screws and tighten, or insert into the holes if your switch uses those.
  6. Secure the new switch — tuck the wires back into the electrical box and fasten with the provided screws.
  7. Attach the new cover plate — place it over the switch and screw it in.
  8. Turn the power back on — at the circuit breaker or fuse box.
  9. Test your new switch — rotate the dimmer knob; your lights should brighten and dim smoothly.

Cut and finished

Solid from the backbrass through and through

Most decorative toggle switches are zinc or pot-metal bodies with a brass-coloured coat — they feel light because they are. The Carennac starts as a solid brass billet and is machined to the final form, so the weight is distributed evenly from the toggle lever to the base plate. The finish is applied over real brass rather than over a proxy material, which means it holds its tone as the surface develops character with use.

Frequently asked

Yes — the Carennac is designed to replace any existing US standard switch. It drops into the existing electrical box using the same mounting points; most homeowners complete the swap in under five minutes with a basic screwdriver. Turn off the circuit breaker before you start.

100% solid brass — the body, toggle lever, and base plate are all brass throughout, not plated over a base metal. This is what gives the Carennac its weight (1.5 to 4 lbs) and its durability over years of daily use.

The toggle clicks with a deliberate, mechanical precision — the kind of feedback that lighter plastic or pot-metal switches don't produce. The weight of the brass means the lever moves with resistance and lands with a definite click rather than a soft snap.

Yes — the Carennac is UL certified, independently tested for safety and performance in residential electrical applications. This makes it suitable for standard homes, heritage properties, and high-end residential projects alike.

Because the finish is applied over real brass rather than a base metal, it develops a natural patina over years of use rather than flaking or wearing through to an underlying colour. The brass tones deepen and warm rather than degrade — most owners consider this an improvement.

Yes — the Carennac is designed for US standard electrical boxes and uses the same mounting dimensions as a conventional toggle switch. No adaptor, special bracket, or modification to the box is required.

The combination of full solid-brass construction, real mechanical weight, and a precise click sets it apart from decorative switches that use lighter materials with a brass appearance. It's a functional object built to the same standard as the hardware it sits alongside.

Yes — solid brass handles repeated use without surface wear. In high-traffic corridors, kitchens, and entryways where a switch is operated many times a day, the Carennac's all-brass construction holds up where lighter finishes would show wear within a year or two.

The all-brass toggle form is consistent with period electrical hardware from the early and mid-20th century — it reads as original in heritage and Arts & Crafts homes rather than as a modern replacement. The natural patina development over time reinforces this authenticity.

Yes — the Carennac comes with a one-year warranty covering manufacturing defects. Extended cover of two or three years is available; ask at the time of purchase. The solid-brass construction means warranty claims related to material failure are rare.
