The Object

The cylindergripped in brass

The Begna is a solid brass cylinder, knurled along its full length so the hand finds purchase from any angle. Available as a knob, a T-knob, or in five pull-bar lengths from 13 to 25.6 cm — one family of hardware scaled across an entire room. Three finishes: black, brass, and bronze.
Why you'll love it
  • Solid brass body — dense, durable, built for daily use
  • Full-length knurling — grip that works from any hand position
  • Six sizes from small knob to 25.6 cm bar — one hardware family
  • Three finishes — matte black, polished brass, and aged bronze
  • Suits cabinets, wardrobes, drawers, and cupboards throughout the home
Details

No wiring here — just careful measuring, drilling, and mounting. Mortice locks take a bit more patience than a simple knob.

Before you begin

  • Mounting — surface installation on doors, drawers, or cabinetry; check your product's dimensions for placement and drilling points

What you'll need

  • Screwdriver (Phillips and flathead), drill and drill bits, Allen key
  • Tape measure, pencil, level
  • Chisel (for mortice lock installation)
  • Screws and anchors, safety goggles

Step by step

  1. Cabinet hardware — mark drilling points — use a tape measure and pencil; a template helps for uniformity across multiple pieces.
  2. Cabinet hardware — drill holes — use a bit matched to the screw diameter, keeping the drill straight.
  3. Cabinet hardware — mount — insert screws from inside the cabinet or drawer, secure the hardware on the front face, and tighten without overtightening.
  4. Cabinet hardware — align and inspect — confirm straightness and spacing before fully securing.
  5. Thumb lock or dummy handle — confirm orientation — determine left- or right-hand door swing and adjust as needed.
  6. Thumb lock or dummy handle — mark installation height — typically 36–38 inches from the floor to the handle center; align the mounting plate.
  7. Thumb lock or dummy handle — drill and attach — drill pilot holes and secure the backplate and handle with the included screws. Dummy handles install directly, no latch mechanism.
  8. Thumb lock only — install the strike plate — mark the latch location on the door frame, chisel a recess if needed, and screw the strike plate in.
  9. Mortice lock — cut the mortice pocket — use a chisel and drill to create a cavity in the door edge, following the provided measurements.
  10. Mortice lock — insert the lock body — fit it into the cavity and attach through the faceplate with screws.
  11. Mortice lock — install the handle — align the spindle through the lock, attach handles on both sides, and tighten with a screwdriver or Allen key.
  12. Mortice lock — install the cylinder (if applicable) — insert the key cylinder and secure with the cylinder screw from the door edge.
  13. Mortice lock — mount the strike plate — align with the latch mechanism and secure to the door frame.

Good to know

  • Double-check measurements before drilling.
  • Use a level for consistent alignment across multiple units.
  • If you're unfamiliar with mortice installation, consult a locksmith or professional.
  • Make sure all moving parts operate smoothly before final tightening.
  • Dummy handles are decorative or pull-only — they don't engage latches or locks.

On the form

The knurlruns its full length

The knurling on the Begna runs end to end — not a decorative band at the edges but a consistent tactile surface wherever your hand lands. Each ridge is cut precisely into solid brass. The form is pure: a cylinder with one considered detail.

Frequently asked

Solid brass — the full body, not a brass-plated base material. Solid construction gives the Begna a density and warmth in the hand that hollow or plated pulls do not achieve, and the finish wears consistently over decades of daily use.

Kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanity drawers, wardrobe doors, sideboard drawers, and cupboards. Brass resists humidity well, so kitchen and bathroom environments are both suitable for indoor residential use.

The knurling runs the full length of the cylinder — not just a decorative band at the ends. The result is a pull that functions as a real grip from any position, while the cylindrical form remains clean and architectural throughout.

Yes — the knurled texture provides real traction. The ridges are cut into solid brass rather than etched or printed, so they remain tactile and effective even after years of daily use and routine cleaning without degrading.

Brass is naturally corrosion-resistant and suitable for humid indoor environments including kitchens and bathrooms. The black and bronze finishes are sealed to maintain their colour; uncoated brass develops a natural patina over time.

Weights range from 61 g for the small knob to 268 g for the longest pull bar. Solid brass construction means each piece feels substantial in the hand — the longer pull bars in particular have a satisfying density at the pull.

Yes — solid brass with knurled detail is a standard specification in high-end residential and hospitality hardware. The Begna's clean cylinder form and three-finish range make it a versatile choice across contemporary and transitional design styles.

Standard installation — machine screws through pre-drilled cabinet holes. Mounting hardware is included. Confirm your cabinet door thickness before ordering to ensure the provided screw length is correct for your specific application.

Minimal. Wipe with a soft cloth to remove fingerprints and dust. For brass and bronze finishes, avoid acidic or abrasive cleaners. The black finish is sealed and the most low-maintenance of the three available options.

Yes — solid brass is one of the most durable hardware materials available. The Begna handles high-frequency applications well: kitchen pull-outs, frequently used wardrobe doors, and main cabinetry throughout the home.
