The Object

Gripcut into solid brass

The knurling isn't decorative — it's machined in rows across solid brass so your fingers find purchase without thinking. Brushed to warm gold or matte black, the finish is quiet. The weight in hand is not.
Why you'll love it
  • Solid brass construction — substantial weight, lasting form
  • Knurled grip machined for secure, confident handling
  • Available in warm gold and deep matte black finishes
  • Fits cabinets, drawers, and interior doors throughout the home
  • Three size options — knob, short pull bar, and long pull bar
Details

No wiring here — just careful measuring, drilling, and mounting. Mortice locks take a bit more patience than a simple knob.

Before you begin

  • Mounting — surface installation on doors, drawers, or cabinetry; check your product's dimensions for placement and drilling points

What you'll need

  • Screwdriver (Phillips and flathead), drill and drill bits, Allen key
  • Tape measure, pencil, level
  • Chisel (for mortice lock installation)
  • Screws and anchors, safety goggles

Step by step

  1. Cabinet hardware — mark drilling points — use a tape measure and pencil; a template helps for uniformity across multiple pieces.
  2. Cabinet hardware — drill holes — use a bit matched to the screw diameter, keeping the drill straight.
  3. Cabinet hardware — mount — insert screws from inside the cabinet or drawer, secure the hardware on the front face, and tighten without overtightening.
  4. Cabinet hardware — align and inspect — confirm straightness and spacing before fully securing.
  5. Thumb lock or dummy handle — confirm orientation — determine left- or right-hand door swing and adjust as needed.
  6. Thumb lock or dummy handle — mark installation height — typically 36–38 inches from the floor to the handle center; align the mounting plate.
  7. Thumb lock or dummy handle — drill and attach — drill pilot holes and secure the backplate and handle with the included screws. Dummy handles install directly, no latch mechanism.
  8. Thumb lock only — install the strike plate — mark the latch location on the door frame, chisel a recess if needed, and screw the strike plate in.
  9. Mortice lock — cut the mortice pocket — use a chisel and drill to create a cavity in the door edge, following the provided measurements.
  10. Mortice lock — insert the lock body — fit it into the cavity and attach through the faceplate with screws.
  11. Mortice lock — install the handle — align the spindle through the lock, attach handles on both sides, and tighten with a screwdriver or Allen key.
  12. Mortice lock — install the cylinder (if applicable) — insert the key cylinder and secure with the cylinder screw from the door edge.
  13. Mortice lock — mount the strike plate — align with the latch mechanism and secure to the door frame.

Good to know

  • Double-check measurements before drilling.
  • Use a level for consistent alignment across multiple units.
  • If you're unfamiliar with mortice installation, consult a locksmith or professional.
  • Make sure all moving parts operate smoothly before final tightening.
  • Dummy handles are decorative or pull-only — they don't engage latches or locks.

How it's made

The knurlwhere hand meets brass

Each row of knurling is machined, not stamped — cut into the brass so the texture holds. The brushed finish catches light without glare. Over time the patina only deepens.

Solid Brass

Cast from solid brass for a weight and warmth that hollow hardware never achieves.

Knurled Grip

Rows of machined knurling give the hand a precise, confident hold every time.

Two Finishes

Warm brushed gold and deep matte black — each finish ages distinctly and well.

Frequently asked

The Aukra attaches with standard machine screws through pre-drilled cabinet holes. Hardware is included. The T-knob uses a single central hole; pull bars require two holes at the specified centre-to-centre spacing of 9.6 cm or 12.8 cm.

No — the Aukra is designed for indoor cabinet, drawer, and wardrobe use. Exterior doors require hardware rated for weather exposure and specific locking mechanisms that this handle does not provide.

Wipe with a soft, dry cloth regularly. For deeper cleaning, a slightly damp cloth works fine — avoid chemical cleaners, which can dull the finish. Over time brass develops a natural patina that can be polished back or left to deepen.

Yes — mounting screws are included with each piece. Standard M4 machine screws are used, compatible with most cabinetry. Confirm your cabinet door thickness before ordering to ensure the correct screw length is provided.

Brass is naturally corrosion-resistant, so the Aukra handles work well in bathroom cabinets and kitchen drawers where moisture is present. They are not intended for direct water contact or exterior use.

Nava Decor accepts returns within 14 days of delivery. Items must be in original, unused condition with packaging intact. Contact our team to initiate a return and we will provide a return label and full instructions.

Nava Decor ships worldwide at no charge. Orders arrive within 15 to 21 business days from dispatch. You will receive a tracking number once your order has shipped from our fulfilment centre.

A soft brush — such as an old toothbrush — can clear dust or residue from between the knurled ridges without scratching the brass. The knurling is cut into solid metal and does not require any special protective treatment.

Yes — each Aukra Knob is covered by a one-year Nava Decor warranty against manufacturing defects. Extended coverage is available on request. Contact our team with your order details to register or extend your warranty.

Use a soft, lint-free cloth with plain water for routine cleaning, then dry immediately. Avoid abrasive pads or acidic cleaners. Wipe in the direction of the brush grain to keep the surface consistent over time.
