The Object

Woven by handno two quite alike

The Alcala is woven by hand — rattan strips bent and bound around a metal frame until the petal form settles. No two are identical. A single E27 bulb sits at the centre, its warmth filtering through the gaps in the weave. The light that reaches the ceiling is soft and uneven in the way that only handwork produces.
Why you'll love it
  • Handwoven rattan — no two fixtures are identical
  • Open weave patterns filter light into warm, layered shadows on the ceiling
  • Dimmable with optional switch for adjustable atmosphere
  • Five diameters from 40 to 100 cm for different room scales
  • Replaceable E27 LED included, rated to 50,000 hours
Details

A close-to-ceiling install for low-clearance rooms — power off, mount the bracket, match the wires, done.

Before you begin

  • Mounting — direct to a standard ceiling junction box; sits close against the ceiling
  • Dimming — most socketed models dim; integrated-LED models don't
  • Ceilings — flat ceilings only; for vaulted or sloped ceilings, look at semi-flush or pendant options instead
  • Power — hardwired to your home's electrical system

What you'll need

  • Screwdriver, voltage tester, wire stripper
  • Wire nuts (included), ladder
  • Drill (only for a new junction box or non-standard ceiling)

Step by step

  1. Turn off the power — shut it off at the breaker panel and confirm with a voltage tester.
  2. Remove the fixture cover — twist or unclip the outer shade or base cover to expose the mounting plate and wiring.
  3. Install the mounting bracket — attach it to the ceiling junction box with the supplied screws, secure and level.
  4. Connect the wires — black to black, white to white, green or bare to ground. Secure each with a wire nut and tuck them into the junction box.
  5. Attach the fixture base — lift into place, align with the bracket, and secure with the provided screws so it sits flush against the ceiling.
  6. Reattach the cover — twist, clip, or fasten the decorative cover or diffuser back on.
  7. Restore power and test.

Good to know

  • Great for standard or low ceilings — hallways, bedrooms, closets.
  • Confirm your junction box can support the fixture's weight.
  • Follow local electrical codes.
  • When in doubt, bring in a licensed electrician.

How it's made

Rattanbound by hand around the metal frame

Each strip of rattan is soaked until pliable, then bent around the metal armature and bound at the intersections to hold the petal form. The process is done by hand — machine production cannot follow these irregular curves at this scale. The result holds its geometry while carrying the small variations that come from handwork: the character that makes each piece its own.

Innovative engineering · intelligent design
Three qualities that make this ceiling light perform as well as it looks.
Hand Woven

Each fixture is woven individually — subtle variations are part of the making.

Open Weave

Rattan gaps cast shifting shadow patterns on the ceiling as the light changes.

Frequently asked

Yes — natural rattan and a petal form suit a wide range of interiors, from period homes to contemporary spaces with an organic or Japandi aesthetic.

The shade is rattan strips woven around a metal frame. The beige finish reflects the natural colour of the rattan — no dye or paint is applied on top.

Each fixture is woven individually — rattan strips are soaked until pliable, bent around the metal armature, and bound at the intersections to hold the petal form. No two are exactly identical.

The Alcala is designed for hardwired ceiling installation and is not configured for wall mounting as a standard product.

Yes — installation instructions are included in the box. We recommend that the electrical connection is completed by a qualified electrician.

One E27-base LED bulb, included in the box. Standard E27 bulbs are widely available if a replacement is ever needed.

Dust the rattan shade with a soft dry brush or a low-suction vacuum attachment. Avoid damp cloths directly on the weave — sustained moisture can soften the rattan over time.

The included E27 LED is rated to 50,000 hours. The rattan shade is durable under normal indoor conditions — avoid direct moisture and sustained high heat.

The open weave filters light into soft, layered patterns on the ceiling and walls — the effect is warm and unhurried, the opposite of a bright, direct light source.

The Alcala comes with a 1-year Nava warranty, extendable to 2, 3, or 5 years. Contact us after purchase to discuss extended coverage.
