The Object

Tapered and balancedform from an older era

The Dokkum Chandelier takes its proportions from 1940s French design: tapered crystal shades sit on X-shaped brass bases, the weight balanced between strength and the visual lightness of the frame. Assembled in 12, 16, or 24 lights, each configuration scales the same idea — directed, ambient light through a considered arrangement that reads as sculpture when unlit.
Why you'll love it
  • 1940s French-inspired form — tapered shades on X-based brass frames
  • Focused, directed light through tapered crystal shades
  • Replaceable E12 LED bulbs — included, easy to service
  • Three configurations: 12, 16, or 24 lights
  • Adjustable cord to 1.5 m · dimmable on request
Details

A standard hardwired ceiling install — most of it is switching off the power and matching three wires. Set your hanging height before you connect anything, and you're most of the way there.

Before you begin

  • Mounting — to a standard ceiling junction box
  • Power — hardwired to your mains supply
  • Dimming — socketed bulbs dim; integrated-LED models don't
  • Drop — arrives at 47" (1.2 m); want it shorter or longer? Just email us before it ships
  • Ceilings — flat, and most sloped (check the product specs)

What you'll need

  • Screwdriver, voltage tester, wire stripper
  • Wire nuts (included), ladder
  • Drill (only for a new junction box or non-standard ceiling)

Step by step

  1. Turn off the power — switch off the lighting circuit at the breaker, then confirm it's dead with a voltage tester.
  2. Mount the bracket — fasten the included bracket to the junction box, snug and level.
  3. Set your height — before wiring, adjust the cord, chain, or downrod to your drop and lock it at the canopy.
  4. Connect the wires — black to black, white to white, green or bare to ground. Secure each with a wire nut and tuck them into the box.
  5. Attach the fixture — line the canopy up with the bracket and fix it flush with the provided screws or caps.
  6. Add the bulbs — correct type and wattage; if dimming, check the bulbs match your wall dimmer.
  7. Power on and test.

Good to know

  • Follow your local electrical codes.
  • For high or angled ceilings, or anything complex, bring in a licensed electrician.
  • Don't over-tighten decorative parts; dust gently with a soft cloth.

On the form

X-base brassstrength carried lightly

The Dokkum's X-shaped brass bases are structural rather than decorative — they hold the tapered shades level and create the visual balance that defines this design. Clear crystal transmits the LED without diffusion, so the light stays directed and precise rather than scattered. Assembled at the ceiling, the whole form reads as a considered arrangement of line and shade.

Directed light

Yes — this chandelier is large and heavy (45–184 lbs depending on configuration). Professional installation by a certified electrician, with appropriate ceiling reinforcement, is strongly recommended.

Yes — the frame is metal finished in brass and the shades are clear crystal. Both materials are built to last for decades with normal care. The E12 bulbs are replaceable, so the fixture outlives individual bulb lifecycles easily.

The tapered crystal shades direct light downward with gentle refraction — the result is focused ambient light rather than a harsh wash. Unlit, the form reads as sculpture; lit, it adds depth and warmth to the space below.

The design is drawn from 1940s French proportions — it suits period interiors, Georgian and Victorian rooms, and classic European architecture. Its balanced X-base brass frames and tapered shades feel at home in spaces with heritage detail.

The chandelier arrives in structured packaging with assembly instructions. Due to the weight and number of components, two people are recommended for assembly, and a certified electrician should handle the ceiling connection.

Yes — a 1-year warranty is included, covering manufacturing defects. Extended cover of 2 or 3 years is available — ask us at checkout or contact us after purchase.

Wipe the crystal shades with a dry, lint-free cloth to remove dust — avoid abrasives. The metal frame can be wiped with a slightly damp cloth. Replace E12 bulbs as needed; they're standard and widely available.

The X-base brass frames are structural — they hold the shades level and keep the layout geometrically balanced. The tapered shades direct light downward rather than scattering it. The result is a chandelier that is as functional as it is considered in form.
