Same swap as any of our brass hardware — power off, match the wires, new fixture in.

What you'll need

  • Screwdriver, wire stripper

Step by step

  1. Turn off the power — at your circuit breaker or fuse box.
  2. Remove the old cover plate — unscrew it and set it aside.
  3. Take out the old fixture — unscrew the switch or outlet from the electrical box and pull it out.
  4. Disconnect the wires — loosen the screws, or if back-inserted, cut and strip the ends.
  5. Connect the wires to the new fixture — wrap around the screws or insert into the terminals, whichever your toggle switch, dimmer, or outlet uses.
  6. Secure the new fixture — tuck the wires back into the electrical box and fasten with the provided screws.
  7. Attach the new cover plate — place the brass plate over the fixture and screw it in.
  8. Turn the power back on — at the circuit breaker or fuse box.
  9. Test your new components — flip the toggle, rotate the dimmer knob, and test the outlet. Everything should respond smoothly.
