Installation Guide

The install depends on your mount type — trimless, recessed, semi-recessed, surface, or track — so confirm which one you have before you start.

Before you begin

  • Mounting — trimless, recessed, semi-recessed, surface-mounted, or track-mounted; confirm the type in your product listing
  • Ceilings — most models suit drywall; some also work with concrete or drop ceilings, check the technical documentation
  • Dimming — many designs dim when paired with compatible drivers and wall dimmers
  • Power — hardwired, connects directly to a ceiling electrical junction
  • Trimless — may need professional finishing or flush-mount drywall work
  • Track — installs onto a compatible rail system; check your product's specification for track type

What you'll need

  • Drill, keyhole or drywall saw (for recessed or trimless)
  • Screwdriver, voltage tester, wire stripper
  • Wire nuts (included with most fixtures), screws and wall anchors (for surface mounting)
  • Level, measuring tape or pencil

Step by step

  1. Turn off the power — at the breaker panel, and confirm with a voltage tester.
  2. Prepare the ceiling opening (recessed and trimless only) — mark your opening with the provided template and cut carefully with a drywall saw or hole cutter. Trimless models need deeper space and extra setup for a seamless finish.
  3. Install the mounting hardware or fixture housing — recessed and trimless designs insert into the ceiling cavity and secure with spring clips or fasteners (trimless may need joist framing); semi-recessed fixtures partially install per the included instructions; surface-mounted downlights attach directly with screws and wall anchors; track fixtures need a compatible track system first, then lock into place.
  4. Connect the wiring — black to black, white to white, green or bare to ground. Secure each with a wire nut and tuck neatly back into the housing or box.
  5. Final assembly — trimless fixtures get mudded and feathered into the ceiling plane before painting; recessed, semi-recessed, and surface fixtures finish by twisting or snapping the trim or body into place; track lights get positioned and rotated along the rail after locking in.
  6. Restore power and test — use the wall switch or dimmer to verify proper operation.

Good to know

  • Professional installation is recommended for trimless or recessed downlights, especially with mudding or insulation involved.
  • Follow local electrical codes and regulations.
  • Use only compatible drivers and dimmers for your fixture.
  • Keep safe spacing from insulation in ceiling cavities to prevent overheating.

Aluminium strip — recessed, the ceiling reads clean

The Redsted Downlight sits within a standard ceiling cutout, its rectangular aluminium body flush to the surface. At 1.8 cm wide, the strip is narrow enough to read as a ceiling line rather than a fixture. Integrated LEDs are sealed within the aluminium body — no bulb sockets, no visible components. The three beam angles are configured to order, so you specify the distribution before the fixture ships.

Innovative engineering. Intelligent design.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Redsted Downlight made of?

The Redsted Downlight is made from aluminium throughout — housing, frame, and backplate. Aluminium is chosen for its light weight, thermal performance (it dissipates LED heat efficiently), and resistance to corrosion over years of use.

Does the Redsted Downlight have dimmable functionality?

Dimming is available as an optional configuration for the Redsted Downlight. Specify dimming at the time of order and we'll configure it for standard ceiling dimmer compatibility. The non-dimming version is the default.

What beam angles are available for this light fixture?

The Redsted Downlight is available with three beam angles: 15° (narrow accent), 30° (task/focused ambient), and 45° (broad ambient). Contact us at the time of ordering to specify the angle that best suits your installation.

What color options does the Redsted Downlight come in?

The Redsted Downlight is available in black and white aluminium finishes. Black integrates into dark or feature ceilings; white disappears into white ceilings. Both finishes are consistent across all head-count configurations.

Can I choose different sizes for the Redsted Downlight?

Yes — the Redsted Downlight is available in six configurations: 1, 2, 3, 5, 10, and 15 heads. Each adds 2W of output and additional strip length. All share the same 4.5 cm width across the range.

How is the energy efficiency of the Redsted Downlight?

The Redsted Downlight uses integrated LEDs throughout — from 2W for a single head to 30W for the 15-head strip. LEDs deliver significantly lower energy consumption than equivalent halogen downlights, with no warm-up time and minimal heat output.

Is the Redsted Downlight easy to install?

The Redsted Downlight is recessed into a standard ceiling cutout and hardwired. We recommend installation by a certified electrician — the rectangular cutout is straightforward to route, but electrical connection should always be handled professionally.

How does the Redsted Downlight enhance room atmosphere?

The narrow rectangular profile and three beam-angle options give the Redsted Downlight precise control over how light lands in a room. A 15° angle highlights art or architectural features; 45° provides a broad, even ambient wash — the same fixture, a different room feel.

Is the Redsted Downlight suitable for both modern and traditional interiors?

The Redsted Downlight's minimal recessed form suits contemporary and modern interiors particularly well. In traditional spaces, the black finish can read as a deliberate architectural accent. The 1 or 2-head configurations are the most discreet for classic rooms.

What makes the Redsted Downlight a valuable investment?

Integrated LED longevity, beam-angle precision, and scalable head counts make the Redsted Downlight a fixture you configure once and rarely revisit. Comes with a 1-year warranty, extendable to 2, 3, or 5 years. Free worldwide shipping, typically 15–21 business days.
