What you'll need

Step by step

  1. Unpack and inspect — check for damage or missing parts. If your model has a detachable shade or base, assemble per the included instructions.
  2. Choose a location — flat, stable surface where it won't be knocked over. For outdoor use, keep it dry and level, and away from water unless the lamp is explicitly water-resistant.
  3. Connect the power source — plug corded models into a nearby (weather-protected, if outdoors) outlet; insert batteries into the compartment for battery-powered models; position solar panels in direct sunlight for the initial charge.
  4. Install or check the bulb — screw it in gently and don't exceed the socket's max wattage. Integrated LED models skip this step.
  5. Turn on and adjust — use the switch, touch sensor, or remote to power it on, and adjust brightness or modes if your model supports it. Solar or motion-activated lamps may need a full charge cycle first.

The Andlau's frame is cut from solid timber — not engineered board or veneer — and each corner is jointed rather than simply glued. The natural finish preserves the grain and allows the wood to respond to humidity without cracking at the seams. Indoors, this is largely invisible. Under shelter outdoors, it means the lantern holds its form through wet and dry seasons without splitting or warping.
