Installation Guide

A standard hardwired ceiling install — most of it is switching off the power and matching three wires. Set your hanging height before you connect anything, and you're most of the way there.

Before you begin

  • Mounting — to a standard ceiling junction box
  • Power — hardwired to your mains supply
  • Dimming — socketed bulbs dim; integrated-LED models don't
  • Drop — arrives at 47" (1.2 m); want it shorter or longer? Just email us before it ships
  • Ceilings — flat, and most sloped (check the product specs)

What you'll need

  • Screwdriver, voltage tester, wire stripper
  • Wire nuts (included), ladder
  • Drill (only for a new junction box or non-standard ceiling)

Step by step

  1. Turn off the power — switch off the lighting circuit at the breaker, then confirm it's dead with a voltage tester.
  2. Mount the bracket — fasten the included bracket to the junction box, snug and level.
  3. Set your height — before wiring, adjust the cord, chain, or downrod to your drop and lock it at the canopy.
  4. Connect the wires — black to black, white to white, green or bare to ground. Secure each with a wire nut and tuck them into the box.
  5. Attach the fixture — line the canopy up with the bracket and fix it flush with the provided screws or caps.
  6. Add the bulbs — correct type and wattage; if dimming, check the bulbs match your wall dimmer.
  7. Power on and test.

  • Follow your local electrical codes.
  • For high or angled ceilings, or anything complex, bring in a licensed electrician.
  • Don't over-tighten decorative parts; dust gently with a soft cloth.

Each leaf is individually formed from iron plate, then assembled in overlapping layers. The open construction means no surface is fully solid — light passes through the gaps between leaves, projecting a broken, organic pattern onto the ceiling and surrounding walls. What materials are used in this fixture?

The leaves are formed from iron plate with a bronze powder-coat finish. The hardware — canopy, cord, and socket holders — is also iron in the same finish. No plastic structural components.

How easy is it to install?

The Germ mounts to a standard ceiling junction box with the included hardware. The adjustable cord allows height-setting before the canopy is secured. Professional installation by a certified electrician is recommended.

Is it suitable for high ceilings?

The hanging configuration drops to 1.2 m from the ceiling, which allows it to sit at a comfortable height even on a 3–4 m ceiling. The ceiling-mounted version sits close to the surface, better suited for standard ceiling heights.

What is the expected lifespan of the LEDs?

The included E27 LEDs are rated for 50,000+ hours under normal residential use. When they eventually reach end of life, any standard E27 LED bulb in the same wattage can be used as a replacement.

Can it be used in damp areas like bathrooms?

No — the Germ is rated for standard indoor use in dry spaces. It is not IP-rated for damp or wet environments. For bathrooms, please enquire about alternatives from our range.

Does it come with a warranty?

Yes — all Nava Decor fixtures include a 1-year warranty as standard, extendable to 2, 3, or 5 years. The warranty covers manufacturing defects. Contact us after purchase to extend coverage.

How do I clean and maintain it?

Dust the iron leaves with a soft, dry cloth or a soft-bristle brush. Avoid water or solvent cleaners, which can affect the bronze powder coat. Isolate the power before cleaning.

Is professional installation recommended?

Yes. As a hardwired fixture, it connects to mains wiring — a certified electrician should handle the junction box connection and cord adjustment. The mounting itself is straightforward.

Does it require special bulbs?

No — standard E27 LED bulbs, which are widely available in hardware stores worldwide. Three are included. Choose a warm-white temperature (2700–3000K) to complement the bronze finish and leaf silhouettes.

What is the return policy?
