Installation Guide

A standard hardwired ceiling install — most of it is switching off the power and matching three wires. Set your hanging height before you connect anything, and you're most of the way there.

Before you begin

  • Mounting — to a standard ceiling junction box
  • Power — hardwired to your mains supply
  • Dimming — socketed bulbs dim; integrated-LED models don't
  • Drop — arrives at 47" (1.2 m); want it shorter or longer? Just email us before it ships
  • Ceilings — flat, and most sloped (check the product specs)

What you'll need

  • Screwdriver, voltage tester, wire stripper
  • Wire nuts (included), ladder
  • Drill (only for a new junction box or non-standard ceiling)

Step by step

  1. Turn off the power — switch off the lighting circuit at the breaker, then confirm it's dead with a voltage tester.
  2. Mount the bracket — fasten the included bracket to the junction box, snug and level.
  3. Set your height — before wiring, adjust the cord, chain, or downrod to your drop and lock it at the canopy.
  4. Connect the wires — black to black, white to white, green or bare to ground. Secure each with a wire nut and tuck them into the box.
  5. Attach the fixture — line the canopy up with the bracket and fix it flush with the provided screws or caps.
  6. Add the bulbs — correct type and wattage; if dimming, check the bulbs match your wall dimmer.
  7. Power on and test.

  • Follow your local electrical codes.
  • For high or angled ceilings, or anything complex, bring in a licensed electrician.
  • Don't over-tighten decorative parts; dust gently with a soft cloth.

Retractable — the fixture that moves when the room does

Most pendant heights are fixed at installation. The Beemster uses a spring-loaded retractable cable so the drop can be changed at any point — lower over a table for task light, higher for ambient coverage when the table is cleared. The spring mechanism sits inside the canopy, invisible from below; what you see is a clean cable and a glowing globe at whatever height suits the moment.

What materials is the fixture made from?

The globe is opal glass — smooth, glossy, and translucent enough to diffuse the bulb into a soft glow. The canopy and cable housing are high-quality plastic, with a PVC spring cable that handles repeated extension and retraction without degrading.

Is the light temperature adjustable?

The fixture itself doesn't have built-in colour temperature control — but because it uses a standard E27 base, you can choose your preferred colour temperature (warm 2700K, neutral 3000K, daylight 5000K) simply by selecting that bulb. Note: a bulb is not included.

How do I install the fixture?

The Beemster ceiling-mounts to a standard junction box — a mounting bracket and junction box are included in the package. Professional installation by a certified electrician is recommended for connecting to your mains wiring.

Is the paint on the fixture non-toxic?

Yes — the colour finish on the canopy and cable is non-toxic and formulated to resist fading and temperature changes. It's safe for indoor use in living areas, kitchens, and children's rooms.

How durable is the paint finish?

The finish is temperature-resistant and fade-resistant — designed to hold its colour under daily indoor conditions including warmth from the bulb and ambient humidity. Normal handling won't chip or scratch it.

Can the height of the fixture be adjusted?

Yes — that's the Beemster's core feature. The retractable spring cable extends to 1.5 m and holds at any point along that range. Pull it to the height you want and release; the spring holds it in place without any locking mechanism.

What is the lifespan of the LEDs?

The fixture accepts any standard E27 LED — lifespans vary by bulb brand, but most quality E27 LEDs are rated for 15,000–25,000 hours. For the longest life, choose a reputable brand rated at 15W or below.

Is the lighting glare-free?

Yes — the opal glass globe diffuses the bulb evenly across its surface, eliminating the visible bright point you'd get from clear glass. The light that reaches the room is soft and even, comfortable to look toward.

What voltage does the fixture operate on?

90–260V — compatible with standard household wiring in most countries worldwide. No converter or adapter is needed for typical residential installations.

Does the package include all necessary installation hardware?
