Installation Guide

Most wall lamps are a simple bracket-and-wire job — but check your power type first, since hardwired, plug-in, and rechargeable models each install a little differently.

Before you begin

  • Dimming — most socketed lamps dim; integrated-LED models don't
  • Power — hardwired, plug-in, or rechargeable depending on the model; check your product details
  • Mounting — wall-mount, hardware included
  • Indoor/outdoor — confirm your model is rated for outdoor use before installing outside

What you'll need

  • Screwdriver
  • Wire nuts (included for hardwired models)
  • Voltage tester
  • Power drill (for new mounting locations)

Step by step

  1. Identify your power type — hardwired, plug-in, or rechargeable. Follow the steps below for yours.
  2. If hardwired: turn off the power — switch off at your main electrical panel and confirm with a voltage tester.
  3. If hardwired: remove the old lamp — unscrew it and disconnect the wires by removing the wire nuts.
  4. If hardwired: attach the new mounting bracket — align it with your junction box or marked wall location and secure with the included screws.
  5. If hardwired: connect the wires — black to black, white to white, green or bare to ground. Twist and secure with wire nuts, then tuck neatly into the junction box.
  6. If hardwired: mount the fixture — align with the bracket and secure with the provided screws.
  7. If hardwired: install the bulb — correct type and wattage, if your model uses one.
  8. If hardwired: restore power and test.
  9. If plug-in: mount the bracket — with anchors or screws, then attach the fixture and plug it into a nearby outlet. Route the cord neatly.
  10. If rechargeable: mount the bracket — with screws and anchors, fully charge the lamp with the included cable, then install it onto the bracket and power on.

What materials are used in the construction?

The body is ABS plastic with an acrylic diffuser face. Compact and lightweight at 87 g — easy to fit into a standard recessed recess in a stair riser or low wall.

How easy is the installation process?

Measure the recess, fit the fixture, and wire to mains. The unit ships with a mounting box and instructions. A certified electrician is recommended for hardwired installation.

Is the light sensor adjustable?

The ambient-light sensor has a fixed threshold — it disables the fixture in sufficient daylight. The PIR sensing zone is fixed; choose your mounting position to cover the intended area.

What color temperatures are available?

Two options: 3000K warm white or 6000K cool white. Select your preferred colour temperature at checkout — both are available across all four finishes.

How energy-efficient is the fixture?

At 1.5W (or 2.5W for the higher-output version), it draws very little power. The ambient-light sensor also prevents it running during the day, reducing unnecessary consumption.

What is the lifespan of the LED chip?

The integrated LED chip is rated for 50,000+ hours — that is over a decade of typical stair-lighting use before any replacement is needed.

Does it have motion sensing capabilities?

Yes — a built-in PIR sensor activates the light when it detects movement within the induction zone. No manual switching required.

How long does the light stay on after detecting motion?

35 seconds after motion stops, the fixture switches itself off. If motion continues, it stays on until the zone is clear.

Is it suitable for outdoor use?

The Flannel Wall Light is rated for indoor use. It is not sealed against rain or moisture. For outdoor stairs, please contact us to discuss rated alternatives.

How does the fixture handle ambient light detection?

The built-in photosensor reads ambient brightness. Above a set threshold — daytime or a brightly lit corridor — the PIR is suppressed and the fixture stays off, saving energy.
