Installation Guide

A standard hardwired ceiling install — most of it is switching off the power and matching three wires. Set your hanging height before you connect anything, and you're most of the way there.

Before you begin

  • Mounting — to a standard ceiling junction box
  • Power — hardwired to your mains supply
  • Dimming — socketed bulbs dim; integrated-LED models don't
  • Drop — arrives at 47" (1.2 m); want it shorter or longer? Just email us before it ships
  • Ceilings — flat, and most sloped (check the product specs)

What you'll need

  • Screwdriver, voltage tester, wire stripper
  • Wire nuts (included), ladder
  • Drill (only for a new junction box or non-standard ceiling)

Step by step

  1. Turn off the power — switch off the lighting circuit at the breaker, then confirm it's dead with a voltage tester.
  2. Mount the bracket — fasten the included bracket to the junction box, snug and level.
  3. Set your height — before wiring, adjust the cord, chain, or downrod to your drop and lock it at the canopy.
  4. Connect the wires — black to black, white to white, green or bare to ground. Secure each with a wire nut and tuck them into the box.
  5. Attach the fixture — line the canopy up with the bracket and fix it flush with the provided screws or caps.
  6. Add the bulbs — correct type and wattage; if dimming, check the bulbs match your wall dimmer.
  7. Power on and test.

  • Follow your local electrical codes.
  • For high or angled ceilings, or anything complex, bring in a licensed electrician.
  • Don't over-tighten decorative parts; dust gently with a soft cloth.

Leather wrapped — glass within glowing

The Simile's glass bell is pressed into a clean bell form and wrapped at the top with a leather collar and iron frame. The leather softens the transition from cord to shade, adding texture to what would otherwise be a plain glass pendant. The integrated LED is sealed within and outputs 30W — enough light for a dining table or kitchen island without a visible bulb.

Is the light fixture compatible with dimmer switches?

The Simile Pendant Light has an integrated LED and is not currently compatible with dimmer switches. If dimming is important for your space, contact us before ordering to confirm availability of a dimmable version.

What materials are used in the construction?

The Simile is made from leather, glass, and iron. The bell shade is pressed glass wrapped with a leather collar at the top; the iron frame and cord connect it to the ceiling canopy.

How do I install this fixture?

The Simile mounts to a standard ceiling junction box and is hardwired. It's sloped-ceiling compatible. Professional installation by a certified electrician is recommended for all hardwired fixtures.

What type of light bulbs does it require?

Does it come with a warranty?

Yes — the Simile Pendant Light comes with a 1-year Nava warranty as standard. Extended coverage of 2, 3, or 5 years is available on request. Contact us after purchase to arrange an extension.

Can it be used in outdoor spaces?

No — the Simile is an indoor fixture only. The leather and glass construction is not rated for outdoor or exposed environments. For outdoor pendants, contact us and we'll suggest an appropriate option.

How do I clean and maintain it?

Wipe the glass with a soft dry cloth to keep it clear. The leather collar can be wiped gently with a slightly damp cloth — avoid soaking it or using conditioners or solvents. Switch off before cleaning.

What is the return policy?

The Simile is covered by Nava's 14-day return policy. If it arrives damaged or isn't right for the space, contact us within 14 days of delivery and we'll arrange a return or replacement.
