Installation Guide

A standard hardwired ceiling install — most of it is switching off the power and matching three wires. Set your hanging height before you connect anything, and you're most of the way there.

Before you begin

  • Mounting — to a standard ceiling junction box
  • Power — hardwired to your mains supply
  • Dimming — socketed bulbs dim; integrated-LED models don't
  • Drop — arrives at 47" (1.2 m); want it shorter or longer? Just email us before it ships
  • Ceilings — flat, and most sloped (check the product specs)

What you'll need

  • Screwdriver, voltage tester, wire stripper
  • Wire nuts (included), ladder
  • Drill (only for a new junction box or non-standard ceiling)

Step by step

  1. Turn off the power — switch off the lighting circuit at the breaker, then confirm it's dead with a voltage tester.
  2. Mount the bracket — fasten the included bracket to the junction box, snug and level.
  3. Set your height — before wiring, adjust the cord, chain, or downrod to your drop and lock it at the canopy.
  4. Connect the wires — black to black, white to white, green or bare to ground. Secure each with a wire nut and tuck them into the box.
  5. Attach the fixture — line the canopy up with the bracket and fix it flush with the provided screws or caps.
  6. Add the bulbs — correct type and wattage; if dimming, check the bulbs match your wall dimmer.
  7. Power on and test.

  • Follow your local electrical codes.
  • For high or angled ceilings, or anything complex, bring in a licensed electrician.
  • Don't over-tighten decorative parts; dust gently with a soft cloth.

The smoky grey of the Elm's glass is a translucent filter — it transmits enough light to illuminate a room but absorbs enough to hide the source entirely. The result is a warm, diffuse glow with a slightly cool depth to the shade itself. The thin cord keeps the silhouette minimal above; the shade is the whole of the composition.

What is the shipping timeframe?

We ship free worldwide — delivery typically takes 15–21 business days from dispatch. Tracking is provided once your order is on its way.

Is professional installation required or can I do it myself?

The Elm is hardwired, so we recommend installation by a certified electrician. All mounting hardware is included in the box, and the junction box mount is standard.

How does the light's color temperature affect room ambiance?

The smoky grey glass shifts the light slightly cooler in tone while softening its intensity. Combined with a warm-white LED, the result is a moodier, more atmospheric glow than a clear shade gives.

Is the glass shade durable and shatter-resistant?

The frosted glass is made to the same standards as the rest of the fixture and handles everyday use well. As with any glass shade, avoid direct impact — handle with care during installation.

What type of bulbs does it use?

E27 LED, replaceable. One bulb per head is included. Any standard E27 LED from a local hardware store is compatible when replacement is eventually needed.

How do I adjust the hanging height?

The cord adjusts up to 1.5 m (4.9 ft) from the canopy. Surplus cord can be gathered inside the canopy at the ceiling — no cutting required.

Does it come with all necessary mounting hardware?

Yes — a junction box mount, canopy, and cord are included. The fixture is ready to install from the box once your electrician prepares the ceiling connection.

Can it be dimmed with a compatible switch?

Dimming is available on request — specify at checkout. Standard E27 LED bulbs are also compatible with most wall dimmers, though we recommend confirming bulb-dimmer compatibility before purchase.

Is it suitable for outdoor use?

No — the Elm is designed for indoor use only. It is not rated for moisture or weather exposure.

How long is the warranty?

The Elm comes with a 1-year warranty, extendable to 2 or 3 years on request. Returns are accepted within 14 days of delivery — contact us and we'll arrange it.
