Installation Guide

No wiring here — just careful measuring, drilling, and mounting. Mortice locks take a bit more patience than a simple knob.

Before you begin

  • Mounting — surface installation on doors, drawers, or cabinetry; check your product's dimensions for placement and drilling points

What you'll need

  • Screwdriver (Phillips and flathead), drill and drill bits, Allen key
  • Tape measure, pencil, level
  • Chisel (for mortice lock installation)
  • Screws and anchors, safety goggles

Step by step

  1. Cabinet hardware — mark drilling points — use a tape measure and pencil; a template helps for uniformity across multiple pieces.
  2. Cabinet hardware — drill holes — use a bit matched to the screw diameter, keeping the drill straight.
  3. Cabinet hardware — mount — insert screws from inside the cabinet or drawer, secure the hardware on the front face, and tighten without overtightening.
  4. Cabinet hardware — align and inspect — confirm straightness and spacing before fully securing.
  5. Thumb lock or dummy handle — confirm orientation — determine left- or right-hand door swing and adjust as needed.
  6. Thumb lock or dummy handle — mark installation height — typically 36–38 inches from the floor to the handle center; align the mounting plate.
  7. Thumb lock or dummy handle — drill and attach — drill pilot holes and secure the backplate and handle with the included screws. Dummy handles install directly, no latch mechanism.
  8. Thumb lock only — install the strike plate — mark the latch location on the door frame, chisel a recess if needed, and screw the strike plate in.
  9. Mortice lock — cut the mortice pocket — use a chisel and drill to create a cavity in the door edge, following the provided measurements.
  10. Mortice lock — insert the lock body — fit it into the cavity and attach through the faceplate with screws.
  11. Mortice lock — install the handle — align the spindle through the lock, attach handles on both sides, and tighten with a screwdriver or Allen key.
  12. Mortice lock — install the cylinder (if applicable) — insert the key cylinder and secure with the cylinder screw from the door edge.
  13. Mortice lock — mount the strike plate — align with the latch mechanism and secure to the door frame.

Good to know

  • Double-check measurements before drilling.
  • Use a level for consistent alignment across multiple units.
  • If you're unfamiliar with mortice installation, consult a locksmith or professional.
  • Make sure all moving parts operate smoothly before final tightening.
  • Dummy handles are decorative or pull-only — they don't engage latches or locks.

Knurled midsection — polished ends

The Storfors is machined from a single length of brass — the body is smooth and cylindrical at each end, with a central knurled band that gives the finger somewhere to land. The contrast between polished and textured surfaces is not decorative; it's functional geometry applied carefully. Polish it or let it develop a natural patina over years of use.

Innovative engineering. Intelligent design.

Frequently Asked Questions

What material is the Storfors Knob made of?

The Storfors Knob and pull bar are made from solid brass — machined from a single piece, not cast or plated. The weight is substantial and the finish consistent throughout the body.

What design features make this handle unique?

The Storfors combines a knurled central grip with polished cylindrical ends — functional texture in the right place, clean geometry everywhere else. It reads refined, not ornate.

In which areas of the home can it be used?

The Storfors works on kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, wardrobe doors, and drawers. The solid brass tolerates humidity in bathrooms and the heat near kitchen appliances.

Does the Storfors Knob come in different sizes?

Yes — the Storfors is available as a T-knob (L5.4 x H3.6 cm) and pull bars in four lengths: 13.2, 16.5, 19.5, and 26 cm. All share the same cylindrical knurled form.

What interior design styles does this handle complement?

The Storfors works in minimalist, contemporary, and industrial interiors. In brass or silver it suits Scandinavian and transitional kitchens; in black it reads more industrial or modern.

Is the knurled texture functional or purely decorative?

Functional — the knurled midsection provides real grip when opening drawers and doors, especially with wet or dry hands. The texture is machined for traction, not just appearance.

Does the polished finish require special maintenance?

No — the Storfors Knob's brass finish requires no special treatment. Wipe it clean with a damp cloth. If you prefer a patina, simply leave it to develop one naturally over years of use.

Can it be used in high-humidity areas like bathrooms?

Yes — solid brass tolerates bathroom humidity without rusting or corroding. The finish may develop a natural patina over time; many customers prefer this to the original polish.

How is it installed on furniture or doors?

The Storfors mounts with machine screws through the cabinet panel using standard hardware. Hole spacing is listed per size; drill to match, then tighten from inside the cabinet.

What makes the Storfors Knob worth choosing?

Solid brass with genuine knurling is rarer at this price point than plated or hollow alternatives. The Storfors is built to last for decades and improve with age — a one-time hardware upgrade.
